I think everyone has the choice and the opportunity to be what they want, but only if they work hard enough at it. If you want to work at a low income job then by all means go ahead and do it, if you want to stay home (if you have one) all day and smoke weed go ahead, do whatever makes you happy. But when things get tough and things get hard the only person you can blame is yourself. I definitely agree with what Penelope420 has said.
