  1. I realize this is kind of petty but I'm not sure what to think about this.

I lent my friend my zippo lighter, he's recently revealed to me that he threw it away because it was out of fluid. If we had a facepalm image here I'd use it.

It was kind of sentimental to me because it was given to me by a close family member, I don't want to be mad because he made an honest mistake but at the same time zippos aren't cheap and something with sentimental value like that isn't easily replaced.

Should I make him buy me an identical one? Or just let it go?

  2. Take out his knee caps. THEN tell him it was sentimental.

  3. Will do.

  4. How do you know he really threw it out? Maybe he just wanted it for himself. Either way, I'd make him buy a new one...

  5. advice for the future...try not to "lend out" things that have a sentimental value to you..as this is seen pretty commonly that friends in some form or fashion lose other friends things..ya digg

  6. Well I just gave it to him for one night, I figured he would be smart enough to realize that zippos aren't disposable lighters. But yeah, I digg

  7. Call him a dumbass and ask for money, I mean i could understand if he threw a bic away or something

  8. It's a empty lighter... Are you gonna make him buy you an empty lighter as well.

You act as if it's hard to buy an empty lighter...

  10. I'd tell him, nicely, that "hey dude, I know you didn't mean anything by it, but that meant something to me and I spent some good dough on it. Can you please replace it? I'd do the same for you." If he gets huffy about the whole thing then fuck him - he's a toolbag if he can't rectify his mistake in an adult manner.

  11. How does one not piece together that a $20+ lighter can not be refilled?

  12. Do you not understand what a zippo is? It is a refuelable lighter not a cheapo butane bic.
He's obviously not the brightest bulb in the box

But I was wondering the same thing.

  13. He owes you a Zippo preferably identical. Look around EBay an other places and show him what you want in return. If it was engraved then he should be paying for that as well. It will have lost some of its sentimental value but it will be a momento.

Don't lend anyone anything that means something to you.

I lost my own Zippo that was engraved and had very sentimental value and replaced it identically with engraving. It still has the sentimental value but I will always remember it isn't the original one.

Except for cotton and a wick inside all Zippos are purchased "empty"

  15. Have him give you like 20 bucks...
