young seed/sprout growing question

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by ojosrojos, Jun 19, 2009.

  1. im about to start 4 new plants and am wondering about my lighting. i bought 2 42watt CFLs but i just found out that they burn at 2700kelvin. every thread says for vegging 6500k is neccesary, so im wondering if i should either...

    1. straight up return the 2 42watt CFLs and get 4 26watt 6500k cfls
    2. buy 2 daylight flourescent tubes to supplement the soft white 42watters
    3. say fuck it and grow my younglings in a lower temperature light

also, about how long should i grow my little girls with flourescents before i switch them to either 600 or 1000 watt HPS..

:wave:thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out:wave:

  2. If you plan on using a HPS down the road, then I would return the 2700k and get the 6500k daylight CFL's. You can probally get away with only two 42watt CFL's, and then switch to the HPS after a couple weeks. Just start off high with the HPS (3 feet or more above plants) and slowly move it down and watch for signs of burning. With only four plants, you won't need to go with the 1000watt, just stick with the 600watt.
