You view on Large Corporate America vs. Smaller Local Jobs

  1. I am thinking ahead on life and I an near that time where my life is going to change to starting a career after graduating in December. Now, I want to get into marketing/advertising and I have first hand experience seeing how large corporations operate since I used to be a janitor. I would see people sitting in their cubicle in their own little space, literally glued to their computers everyday. I really don't want this to be where I end up because I would feel like 1 number out of thousands. However, I did a couple internships with local jobs and I felt more included and was able to take on various things and also interact with the community, which is something that many workers in large corporations don't do. They just work all day, go home, rise and repeat.

There is a job fair at my college next Wednesday and none of the corporations appeal to me at all. Just typical "salesman". I would like to get into public relations, but the only opportunity for that is as a intern... Idk I just feel kind of anxious. I feel that I have a couple other choices instead of the career fair since one of my internship bosses started her own public relations firm and said I could possibly work with her since she felt I had a strong work ethic and I feel that could open opportunities to delve in many areas of marketing since she's smart and recently got her masters last year. I've kept track of her progress and she has a website up and is marketing for various events. Another place I could work is a strictly a public relations firm affiliated with my current job, so I feel the local factor is important since you feel more connected to the community. I am aware that working locally possibly means lower pay, but I would have a chance to gain more experience than being stuck as a "salesman" and I believe that would pay off in due time. Any thoughts on this?

  2. Maybe Law? Politics? Or start smaller, city council? You seem like someone with a strong head, and both of those options need it.

Idk, I feel like I can be really flexible with what I want to do. Something within me is telling me to go big without starting off somewhere big first. In my mind, if I was able to work with my internship boss, I feel that would open up the most opportunities and she could possibly put me in a position of authority since she always praised my work and offered me to work with her after I graduate. Hopefully, her business is going strong like I thought since she has an original concept and she's driven like myself. If I was to start at a large company, I will always be just a number and I would hate that feeling and have felt that way since I've seen people sitting in cubicles. It honestly reminds me of a daycare with everyone in their own playpen in a way.

Be a farmer. Grow weed. Sell it for profit. Fuck all that 9 to 5 shit. What the world really needs is more fucking growers.

  5. Totally illegal in my state so that's not an option. I need advice based on what's legal here lol.

  6.
    sorry  :smoking:

  7. I wouldn't survive a single day in a cubicle.

But that's just me. At the end of the day, you have to do what you're going to be happy doing. What's the honest point of doing anything otherwise? Money is one thing, but it's far from everything. Choose the path that you'll genuinely enjoy being on, and everything else will follow. It always does.

From what little interaction we've had, I get the impression that you're not the "corporations" type. If you don't do what you're passionate about, you're never going to exercise your potential. Keep that in mind no matter which direction you decide to head.

    Good luck chica. :smoke:

  8. To further explain, I would not want to get into law or politics... way too much corruption. I had a teacher who was a lawyer and he came off as a douche. Lawyers/people who work on computers all day also tend to get carpal tunnel syndrome often which is why I don't want a typical desk job cuz I need my hands!

  9. I would love your input based on what I said anyway. Any advice would help!

  10. Yes!!! You have a pretty good rep with Grass city. Ask them if you can be thier PR person. Good luck!

Oh wait....you said local.   IDK. I say get into the feild that you are passionate about or else you will hate your job. Perhaps the cannabis culture would be a good PR outlet. Good luck!

  11. I think you should do what it is that you want to do...'Cause no one else has to wake up this side of next year in your shoes.

  12. Ha that's a lot though I did say I'm looking to start locally first.

  13.
Dude - I work at a manufacturing and assembly plant for big ass multinational company. They pay better than the local, smaller companies and have better benefits, but they suck huge dick compared with the smaller ones that I've worked for before. This company is nutty as hell - fucking Nazi gestapo fuckers. But I can afford more weed there than at the small ones.

  15. I am more afraid of being treated like a indentured servant. $ is good, but it doesn't bring happiness if you are miserable.

  16. Haha
