I've been couchsurfing for over a year and find that it's such a great thing because it allows people to connect on a deeper level with locals, and also see other countries through the eyes of those who live there. It's much more than finding "a place to stay," and that's the beauty of it. Thoughts on it?
I hate sleeping on couches I'd rather sleep on the ground. I get a lot of remarks on how I'm a hard ass(not bad ass) and I say it's because I sleep on the ground a lot which makes me a smart ass(not a douche... ass)

i couch surfed for about a year and a half. went all the way from Houston to Seattle and back. then i bounced around Texas for a while. fun times
Yeah dude. It's a website where people can post profiles and what not and people can ask people in foreign countries for a place to crash while they're traveling there. It's sick.
Nah, I've gotten really drunk though but haven't blazed with any of them yet. You may be surprised at some of the shit that goes down when people couchsurf haha.
How do you know someones legit? I've been to the site a long time ago but really, I'd find it mildly hard to trust people. Plus, what are the etiqute rules? You just move in, and sleep there, hang out? Don't need to pitch in for food or anything? PS - Some people don't "know people" so they can't just travel inside their social group. It'd be nice to know and keep in touch with people who aren't around here but I think its a bit of a rare case.
You know someone is legit by viewing their references on their profile. People who have stayed with them in the past review their experiences and let you know if someone is cool or wack. I have had amazing experiences, even when this one dude I stayed with in Dublin, Ireland told me he was insane and that the church was trying to get him haha. Etiquette rules are that you don't treat the website/ your host as just a place to crash for a night or two. You have to be willing to engage others with your own experiences, and to be open to their own diverse lives. You don't have to pay for anything, but it's appreciated if you bring a little gift/ pay for part of a dinner/ cook. I usually just bring a flashdrive full of music and give that to them/ a bottle of some good beer or wine to open up the night. Some shit like that. Let me know if you guys have more questions.
