Hello everyone, This Wedding Cake plant is one week from the estimated harvest date (20th October). The yellowing has spread wildly in the last week and what's particularly worrying is that even the sugar leaves are now also starting to yellow. Do you think an early harvest would be the answer in this case? pictures: (the upload feature in the forums didn't work except for one pic): WC 1 by guerrillapps posted Oct 13, 2023 at 11:05 AM
While your yellowing is a bit more pronounced than I typically see, I often have plants in the last week or two suck out as much as they can from fan leaves to power bud development. Here is a Bruce Banner auto about 1-2 weeks from harvest, as you can see its already got some fan leaf yellowing and I expect it to get yellower as the plant run outs its life cycle. This late in the game (last 1-2 weeks of a grow) I'd basically just focus on the buds and making sure they are still doing ok, the fan leaves are just going to end up as trash or compost once you buck them down eventually. As long as your buds look good, I think you'll be ok, I just go by trich fullness and density, a loupe or scope helps, but often just a camera zoom is enough to show if you've got buds about ready to cut imo. (close up of one of the buds from the above shot) I go by something like this, even though you can see the yellow leaves in the background, the buds are doing swimmingly, and less than 2 weeks to harvest, thats typically how I make my calls in late (week 8+) of flower. Best of luck mate, hope this helps, apologies if you already knew.
You have more about 3 weeks before its done. If they were my plants i would continue to do what your doing. Harvest when there ready. Your next grow you should do what your doing and keep giving veg nutrients even in flower but only 50 % strength along with your bloom nutrients . Ok no bloom nutrietns until you clearly see flowers then add your bloom and cut the veg nutrietns. This grow i know you will be able to harvest. I would not pound nutrients . Ride it out . And next grow once you see most of the white hairs on the buds to start changing colors its time to SUBJECTIVE . stop feeding everything but water . Why feed when its not needed .Not doing the flush or not debate . I would stop feeding for reasons
I agree, I feed through 95% of flower. I figure keeping the plant green for as long as possible can help the plant's bud production and not have to scavenge nutes from the fan leaves to do so. However, be careful. I noticed if too aggressive in feeding , fox tailing can occur.
