Hi there! I have some 5 week old plants here that I can’t seem to figure out the issue. I’ve checked PH before watering/feeding. I strive for 6.5 no higher than 6.7 I currently feed every other day and water in between. Lights are about 6 inches from plants. I only use Grow Big from Fox Farms and have happy frog soil. I tested runoff and got 6.2 PH so I don’t know if this is a PH issue or not. Please help me fix my girls *** also they were thirsty in these pics, I fed them after ***
Hi Rachel, welcome to the forums. I think the pH is great. Optimal pH in soil is 6.25, so there's no problem there. I see dark green foliage and some twisting going on. This is normally caused by too much nitrogen or high EC (ie. salinity of the water). Are you using unfiltered water? Some tap water is just too high in salt and needs to be diluted with either RO or distilled water. Hope that helps.
Hi thank you!!! I actually am using tap water yes, should I just go for distilled water from now on? I’m not sure what RO is. But even just watering them with balanced PH hasn’t corrected the issue or anything so that’s why I’m stumped. Too much nitrogen does sound about right!
I think you should check with an EC meter or strips. EC (electrical conductivity) can also be reported as TDS (total dissolved solids). RO stands for Reverse Osmosis (ie. filtered water). I missed that as well, about how close your light is. If the light is too close, as @sweedright mentioned, it would also cause this, especially at the top of the plant.
Interesting! I’ve never had this issue before but just started this in a new place - also, I was totally wrong about how high my lights are lmao, I don’t know why I said 6 inches. Multitasking isn’t in my favor. They’re 24 inches above the top of the plant
Yes indeed it would be. They are 24 inches above the top of the plant bc I was nervous to burn them once it started turning yellow. They’ve stopped growing vertically I’ve noticed, too
You can probably get your Water Quality Report for your municipality off the web. That will report the TDS/EC and alkalinity. I would start by checking that out.
So it sounds as though you had the light too low and moved it up once you noticed a problem. If that is correct, then the problem should resolve itself now that the lights have been moved up.
