yellow fan leaves (2 weeks into flowering)

  1. HIGH all,

I am now 2 weeks into flowering and other than a few very yellow leaves at the base of the plant, she looks very healthy. My question is... should this be a concern?

This plant is growing in soil (3gal pot) with a 400 HPS for light. I am watering every 4-5 days so I don't think this is a issue with overwatering. I also recently added a 1/2 dose of 10-58-10 blooming fert with my last watering.

A few weeks back I had an overfert issue while I was vegging the plant. That was fixed but maybe the problem is still lingering a bit.

Here are a couple pics. I will try adding a close up of the yellowing leaves later when the lights turn on.

Thanks for any advice in advance. Remember, this yellowing is happening only at the base of the plant.

  2. HIGH All, yes you will see yellowing of the biggest fan leaves first..it's because your Flowering fert has less N. Are you growing into your room when it's lights out...a BIG no no.

  3. Thanks... yeah I know better than to interrupt the dark times while flowering. Is it normal for all the fan leaves to eventually die? If not what would happen if they did? I swear the young buds are forming and look healthy. Just my first time and I'm not sure if this is normal.

  4. I cannot offer much advice, but I am in a very similar situation. I am about 3-4 weeks into flowering under a 400w hps and my lower fan leaves are yellowing and drying up.

I think there are several reasons for this. One is that as the plants get bigger and bushier, less light is making it down to the lower leaves. Another is likely the N-thing. And furthermore, the leaves are not a priority in this stage. Most of the plant's energy is being put into flowers at the expense of other stuff. This is fine so long as the flowers get enough energy.

My evaluation is that this is normal and will not significantly hinder the flower growth. I would like to hear of other experiences.

  5. yeah, first time growing for me. just not sure if this is normal. here are a couple other pics. the lower part of the plants look bad, but like i said, the flowers are looking real nice and growing more by the day. hopefully they survive another 6 weeks!

  6. its normal... like they said befo.. plant is putting all its energy in the budding... that mean all the nutrient are heading to the buds.... by the end of the grow almost all yo fan leaves will be fallen and some be brown and some will be yellow.. but if u notice theres alot of baby leaves forming with the bud... plant looking great by the way.... nothing to worry...

ps.. when is flowering plants start to comsume more water then when they were in veg stage so keep a eye site for when that happens....latezz..

  7. its normal but i'd still want to give it a little N boost to make sure it gets through flowering. in 6 weeks time you could have no leaves left. lol. and then itll start eating into the size of your buds as leaves are like energy packs for the buds...

theres probably something organic which you can use which you already have in your home (although unfortunately i dont know :p)
otherwise, a cheap N fert will be 2$
