I have a sort of electrical question. If I buy a clamp light and it's rated for a certain wattage (say 150 watt) could I plug a y-socket into it and use two 150 watt bulbs with it or would it not be okay to do that?
If you're talking about cfl's, you're probably talking about 150 equivalent watts which is about 40 actual watts so, yes, you can use two of those in a fixture designed for 150 actual watts. If you're planning on using some type of incandescent bulb (which you shouldn't) than only one 150 watt per fixture.
