Hello, from Virginia and have been growing weed for just about 20yrs now. Never with anything nice, this is by far my nicest and biggest setup. I'll keep it short and just let yall know what's what and let the videos do the talking! Growing Medium: - 3/4 Happy Frog Soil - 1/4 Organic Perlite - About 1/4 cup of slow release Tomato-Tone Organic Fertilizer per 2 gallons of soil - Fox Farms Trio (Big Bloom, Grow Big, Tiger Bloom) - Clones being cloned in Root Riot Cubes with Clone X Rooting Hormone, in a Humidity Dome Strain: I have 9 Feminized Vaghan Marmalade plants, from a Breeder in VA called Jolly Pond Farm's. Four are in airpots and the other five are in my homemade airpot/grow bags. VA Marmalade is a mix of the one and only sought after Virginia Ghani crossed w/ Limetta Marmalade (if I'm not mistaken). They're going to be monsters, as I plan to veg these out for as long as possible, to fill my tent - which is... Setup: - Vivosun 4x4x7ft Grow Tent - RDJ Bouns Growline 730w Full Spectrum LED - Fluence Spydr 2i 631w LED - AC Infinity 6" inline duct fan, as the exhaust, with controller. - 6" inline duct fan, as an intake (coming from outside winter air) for any cooling purposes - Lots of in tent fans - HEPA standalone Air Filter - Small heater and small humidifier - InkBird Temp and Humidity controllers/thermostats, to keep all of this madness in check! So, that's that! Now, I'm obviously not using both of these massive lights at once. But I have both at my disposal, as I had already purchased the RDJ, when the guy offered me a deal on the Fluence that was absolutely impossible to refuse! These plants started out under a cheap White Rose 200w LED QB, in a small 2x4ft tent. I quickly found out that these plants would need a lot more.. lol. I've made two journal videos so far and I'll be posting them here, along with photos, as the grow progresses. Subscribe and follow along on my journey!
So I'm trying to find a good far red/IR supplement light for my upcoming bloom, as that seems to be the only place this RDJ is lacking. I think it's called the emerson effect. I just don't know how many watts to get for this size tent and 730w! I plan to get the 4 bar AC Infinity UV supplement lights and put one on each vertical pole in my tent as well, so UV is covered. I just need to install a "bloom booster" of sorts!
Nice set up. I also grow in a 4x4. But, with only 520 watts of QB boards. I normally grow 4 plants in 10 gallon pots of living organic medium. My tent is currently on week 3 of 12/12 with 2-Acapulco gold and 2-G13 Haze plants and the tent is full from wall to wall. Have you grown 9 plants in a 4x4 before?
Nope, but we're going to this round! Lol. I plan to fill it to the brim, trust me. Thanks for all of the compliments and subs. My Fluence light will be here tomorrow, but I think im going to stand by this light for this grow atleast. I ordered a set of the 40w Mars Hydro IR/UV Supplement lights. I'll smack them in, when they come in and use them per Mar's instructions. I did some pruning and tying down of everything today... my bag seed turned out to be an auto and freaking got root bound in the stupid bag i had it growing in, at the most crucial time (its flowering stretch). So yea... Anyways, lots of severe LSTn and pruning going on and all of the clones have finally grabbed and started to take off. I through a Lemon Berry clone in there yesterday as well (its the long, lanky one).
Holy cow, I missed the 9 plants in a 4x4. This could be more interesting than I thought. I've always been taught that less is more in cannabis growing. Unless your using sea of green. I'll be honest, I'm expecting a shit show of overgrowitus...let's see what you come up with. It should be interesting and educational. This isn't your first rodeo. I'd like to see how you tackle this green explosion coming to your tent soon..lol. Best of luck to ya.
Lol I know, its going to be crazy. I plan to throw them in flower as soon as this auto finishes. It's been through everything there's to go through though, its quite a sad lil plant. This has been a big learning curve with using LEDS. Not to mention I had no idea this was an auto and have abused it... I started it in a cloth type pot and it got root bound right as it showed its preflowers. So it got roots ripped off of it transplanting and it's just now semi recovering. Then, today, I realize the biggest plant and the autos leaf tips were bleaching, i had the light too low. This has kinda been a shit show from the beginning, switching lights, switching tents, etc. I received my Fluence 630w light today and my plan is to use the RDJ throughout veg and finishing this auto, then switch to the Fluence for flower and from here on out! The Fluence is a beautiful light and stole my heart immediately. I'm going to return the RDJ, get my $350 back. Lol. The Fluence is plenty after seeing it and playing with it and I could use some recoup money. Ha! I got the IR/UV Supplement lights today from Mars Hydro and they're installed and running. We'll see if they help or worsen this craziness! I figure the sun and HIDS put it out, LEDS should too damnit. I've got the two smaller clones finally catching in their new pots, I've done a few more toppings and more tying down to each smaller plant, and the biggest "mother plant" is looking droopy and stressed. I def had the light too low..... I'll get this sucker dialed in eventually and get this absolute forest thrown into flower!!!! (I don't know why it won't upload all of my photos, I'm not messing with it. Ya get what ya get! Lol. I'll make a video tomorrow...)
We ere experimenting with far red many years ago on the forum, link in my sig. Back then we had to make our own lights and a lot of the tests ended when loki disappeared and I had moved to a state in which I could not grow. There is two things that you can accomplish with far red, which are interrelated, the first being what is referred to as the Emerson effect which will boost growth but it tends to stretch out your node spacing in veg, the other being a reduction in the hours of dark needed. The later far red was only used at the end of the light cycle and in the start of dark to attempt to speed up phytochrome conversion to induce flower. Therefore reducing the number of hours needed in the dark period and allowing one to "shorten" the overall day.
I have no doubt you'll tackle the jungle awaiting you. Should be fun to watch. Great looking lamp. I'd love to move up to 600+. Would do well in my 4x8. Someday..lol.
The emerson effect is IR with 660nm mixed correct? My light has 660nm in it, but I just added the IR and UV bar to it yesterday. I planned to just let it crank whenever the light was on. Though I have heard that for the IR that ppl are hitting them 10 mins before lights on and then 30 mins before lights off, 10 on, 10 off, 10 on, then all lights off. Think that would work better? I also have this 12x12" full 660nm QB board, that I was thinking about throwing in during flower. Maybe... Yea, it's quite a bit, I really wanna fill her out. But it's looking like the last Marmalade clone isn't going to make it in time, plus one is a bagseed auto. So it's looking like 6 of the VAghan Maramalades will go into flower together, along with a Berry Lemon Candy clone that just took. Thanks man, I appreciate the encouragement. Things happen in every grow to make me wonder if I really know wtf I'm doing lol. The RDJ light is pretty nice and I like it, but I am indeed going to move on with the Fluence during flower. As it will be my "forever" light, for the foreseeable future.
Fluence Spydr 2p is in the tent and rockin' with the Mars Hydro IR/UV Supplement lights! 6 VAGHAN MARMALADE'S 1 AUTO GELATO 1 LEMON BERRY CANDY BOOM! JUST LIKE THAT, I HAVE THE OUTDOORS... INDOORS!
Man, these plants have really responded to this light. Absolutely crazy! Things are aboit to get interesting... a lil clip before some defoliation and tying down! Also, some photos of how the light is doing. I've knocked it back to 18hrs of light to get into spec.
