is it possible for x-rays like those found in the metal detectors at airports where you leave your luggage to sterilize seeds and make them unviable?
i'd think it's unlikely to hurt the seeds because they are low powered xrays and the exposure time is only a couple of seconds at most.
ironically enough, I was reading an article on inheritance of sex-linked traits in cannabis, and one of the variables was established by exposing pollen to x-rays. the exposure was ridiculous though, 5mA, 50kV, 30 minutes. the pollen was then used to pollinate, and the resulting seeds grown out. Only a small percentage of the males showed any mutations. long story short...chiefton8 is right
