Wtf is this?

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by Katieblazey, Apr 29, 2016.

  1. I found creepy prehistoric looking bug on my plant after I brought it in from outside tonight..I shook the plant to try and get rid of any bugs but I guess he was latched on.. At least I hope I don't have these things breeding in my house.. I left the room, came back and he was sitting on it. Never seen this before. *you might have to zoom to really see it, he has a neck 0_o
Also, any advice on why my plants look like this? Definciency? I'm thinking calmag because I'm using filtered water and didn't use calmag the first couple waterings..
I removed the fan leaf in the picture because it was dying.

  2. Oh yeah I was going to mention that. A sign of calmag deficiency?

Entomologist here, Thats a muutha-fuckin' Snakefly! They are a living fossil!

Edit: THESE ARE GOOD GUYS.... Although scary the large stinger-like abdomen is used to lay eggs, in bark or rotting wood. They are also known to lay eggs in the soil near the base of shrubs too. They are a predatory insect and EAT APHIDS AND MITES. Even their larvae are precocious, thought to feed on insect eggs of other species.

Also side note there is a theory that snakeflies eat pollen as well. Which would be useful if a hermie issue occurred!

  6. I
I didn't know what it was so I took some small boxes and like slices the leaves off trying to kill it :/ I read that it is basically a Jurassic insect predator creature and now I'm sad:/ I hope it's okay but I probably scared the shit out of it or unfortunately killed it:/

  7. I was telling my 8 year old earlier about how we don't kill spiders in our garden (veggies) or any bugs unless they're hurting the plant. Food for thought.
