WTF is on my clones??

  1. So i havent had ANY sucess in cloning. Ive tried a total of four times w/rockwool, a tray, and a dome. the tray had holes in it, idk if that made the difference or what. I would mist only the dome when dry and did not foliar feed my plants. They would always die before day 7.

After three times with no success i followed an online guide from youtube. My clones were not dying right away like normal and they looked nice and green.
When i got to day 10 i was wondering how they were surviving yet not rooting. I took two out and opened them up. This is what I found:

    Clone 1

    Clone 2

Looks like some sort of , orangish-yellow buildup with light red tint. Idk wtf it is! Im thinking root rot but idk hard to tell. Its a waxy substance and it looks to be blocking new root development.

What are your thoughts and/or suggestions to avoid this of this from happening?

  2. Idk what that is man. I clone in soil, I don't have any experience with rock wool, so it may be something specific to rockwool. It certainly looks like some sort of mold/fungus. I can say that it would be better if your tray did not have holes in it. It took me a little while to get my cloning method dialed in. First time I had 1 clone survive, 2nd time I had 2 survive, 3rd time I had 5 survive. Then I got it figured out and now all I do is take the cutting from the plant, give it a quick dip, and put in the soil, 100% every time. I don't remove any leaves/shoots other than those on the nodes that I bury, and I don't trim the fan leaves at all. I have had better results leaving fan leaves intact, ymmv. My blueberry gum grows amazing roots and is ready for transplant in 4-5 days. Super critical takes 7-10 days for me. But keep at it, you just have to figure out what works best for you, and I'm sure you will figure it out. I'm sorry I can't be of more help in identifying that funk.

  3. Thats a fungus... Your stems arent able to breath from the moist rockwool cubes allowing the fungus to grow.... Bail on the rock wool.and get some root shooters they work wonders

ITG I'm glad u stopped in. I would love to learn to clone in soil like you. I don't even grow in hydro so soil cloning would actually be alot better in my case. I'm assuming you are using Rooting Powder as opposed to the gel. I think it is the holes in my tray that are causing stagnant air to become trapped within the Rockwool but im no scientist and have no way of proving it. If I cant get it right , Im gonna follow your method and clone in soil

  5. Soil cloning is very easy.. Cut the clone pack the soil and keep it moist

Thanks kush, do u think I should get a tray that doesn't have holes? Could it be helping to cause the fungus? One more quick question : are root shooters and "Rapid Rooters" (things that look like soil cubes) the same thing?

No gel or powder required? Any estimate of how long it will take to root in soil ? I hear 10-14 days max but idk . Sorry for all the questions btw

  8. No your ok buddy thats what these sites are for.
Step 1: cut the clone with a sharp blade at 45 degree angle.
Step 2: place in clonex for 10seconds
Step 3: place in solo cup with dirt pack down tight and moisten.
Reapply moisture gently for 3 days then give it a really good watering after that

  9. root shooters, rapid rooters, etc. are all the same thing. Just choose one.

  10. Awesome ill be picking some up after i get seeds, thanks ITG .

cloning in soil is as easy as taking a dump. 1. get a humidity dome 2. put soil in small containers or use those caps that you uncompress with water. 3. find a branch. 4. cut the branch at a 45 angle and split the stem 1/16-1/8 upwards. poke a hole with a pencil into the soil and then poke the clone down water and close the humitidydome Profit. keep watering them and keep in mind they like warmth limited light and humidity in this stage. Good luck

i have seen clonex used. but i have never used it. and i have killed one clone out of a hundread. i prefer to let my plants dry out a bit to encourage root growth rother than chemicals (after they have roots to begin with)

  12. I found out what was causing the problem. After reading through a lot of threads here and at RUI, and some garden websites, I have concluded that the fungus was due to temps in my tent being too high. I have since added ventilation with a carbon filter and fan combo. I have also added a small clip fan for proper air circulation . I dont have any mothers available for cloning as of yet. Next time I clone im using the turboklone 24 since its quick, and easy . I'd go soil but I'm doing a soil & hydro grow next run .
