WTF did i get myself into? 1st BB go...dont leave me hanging!!!

  1. okay....this is ridiculous but a first for me...with the start of this thing i have 3 journals in 3 different sections lol....

this is my first attempt at hydro...my method of choice during this adventure will be BBs....for the time being, i will use only 2 buckets and a connecting 5 gallon res system...

hydro to me is like arabic....pick your one fucked up language that you know that you will never be able to learn....reading from right to left has to be hard enough on top of squiggle lines :D

i am hoping i did not rush into this since i have half an idea of how this shit works.

from pming peeps in the city and reading whatever i could concerning this subject, i think i am leaning towards res changes every 7-10 days depending....

unfortunately i do not have pictures of what i am putting into these buckets right now because they are in flower and sleeping...

what i have decided to do is to remove my flowering clones from their coir homes and repot them into these buckets...one is just starting to really put on the flowers and the other has been going strong for about 4 weeks now and is much more pronounced.

i am not sure what type of effect this move will have...i am hoping minimal since growing in coir is soiless....

sooooooo what i am working with and what I have to complete tomorrow....i finished one of the bbs....i still need to construct the res and modify the other bucket slightly so it can receive the nutes from the res....

i originally was going to keep individual buckets but since i am flowering the same clones might as well construct the res....

i have not put any fluid indicators on the BBs but may consider adding one to the res and I plan on keeping it that way with the BBs....sure its helpful but i think a pia to have to construct...

ive decided to go with GH for this run and will most likely try FF next round...

i am currently working with 1000 watts and any help any of you experienced BB growers can throw my way i would sincerely appreciate it! I am more than comfortable with soil and coir...but this method amazes and scares the shit out of me lol

  2. okay i have spent the better part of 3 hours finishing up the second bucket...getting the levels right and have put a girl moved from coir to the bb....we will see how she takes
    [IMG]

and here is the other one that i am putting into the other bucket tomorrow....i decided not to build a res...having a hard time figuring out how i can move out 15 gallons of water without it being a major pia...

  3. good luck with the transplant, that tall plant looks like its gonna be dank (yellowish leaves with bright green heads.) Whats its strain?

  4. If you're gonna grow two clones off the same mom, I'd say go w/ the res and let em all use the same water, but if you're gonna do different strains, I'd say keep the water separate. I use the GH stuff, 8ml micro, 16ml bloom per gallon in flower, 5 and 10 in veg. I see you're running 1000 watts, you could probably feed the shit out of them as they are going to grow very fast.

Don't worry about it too much. There's lots of bubble buckets around so pretty much every issue has been experienced and documented.

Keep your ph between 5.5-5.8, your bucket temps in the low 70s and don't let any light into the water and everything else is just figuring out how to feed em with em growing that fast.

  5. duplicate strains from the same super skunk mom...i was going to construct a dedicated res but have not figured out how i would empty the 3 buckets and fill them weekly....i cant keep a 100 gallon tank of water upstairs lol ....but still thinking about it and will come to a solution...

ph yesterday was at 5.7 and has drifted at its highest of 6.1 before settling down at 6.0 with ppm at 400...had a chance to take a look at the transplanted girl and she is doing fine....after i get up (for the second time) i will transplant the other lady into her new home....i guess calmag can be added at anytime?

  6. thanks komatous! its a super skunk and she is only 4 weeks in...she was abused by me lol...i intentionally kept her in a 4 inch square planter and she suffered for it....the yellowing/purpling of the leaves are most likely a nitrogen deficiency

  7. put a drain valve on your res bucket n attach a hose to it so you can drain, or elevate it, so you can put something underneath to catch. Keep in mind that you may not need to empty your res. I've had a plan thirsty enough to drink up the entire 3.5 gallons (in a single BB) in a week. So since you aren't going to be keeping these buckets completely full, you're looking at around 10-12 gallons max, more like 6-9 gallons per change.

Edit: I'm also working on starting my first hydro DWC venture. still in the planning phase however.

  8. HIGH All, Right on another Bucket Head!!!! How Far is the Water under the Net Pots....Don't want to Drown the roots....Best thing for now is to Have the Water Level just under the Pot and Hand Feed till roots emerge from the Pot.....Plus in Flower mode most of the energy will Grow to the Buds Not the Roots.

  9. I'll be here to help if you need anything. I've never seen anyone transplant into BB's after the plant has started flowering. This will be a learning experience for us all!

Good luck, and if you have any questions don't hesitate to throw em my way.

  10. thanks a bunch for finding me over here man! i know i have neglected the organics and everyone else's journal pretty bad! i will be sure to pop over to yours...i know you have big things going! did you decide what lineup of hydro nutes you are going with? i think once these clones are complete and I have gotten rid of the other 2 flowering ladies i will be able to make another shelf to place the res on...i also going to get both buckets off the ground...

Hey Hey unoit!!! thanks for popping in bro...yea i got convinced lol...still love the simplicity of the coir tho! the water level is about an inch below the pots as recommended...some of the roots i feed through the net wholes and are currently taking in the nutrients...so even this late in flower and with still atleast 5 weeks till completion you think i can get results?

and thank god you changed your avatar :p

Thanks a bunch bad and I am sure I will need it so I will hold you to that lol...i didnt search hard enough for a successful full flower transplant to a BB...but since the Ed's said that they saw no problems going from coir to hydro i kinda figured why not give it a shot? i would hate to loose them...but i have about 15 more ready to take their places lol

well i finally got home after doing some running around...i had taken the pictures before I left but didnt have the time to get them up so here goes....okay the one in the bucket was put in yesterday...she seems to be doing relatively well and i am sure she is in shock, but has not shown me as far as a turn around in leaf rigidity...all is perky and happy...in fact i believe she actually grew a lil last night...the one you see on the right is the candidate that has been transplanted into the second bb
    [IMG]

she is a lil yellow due to nitro deficiencies....most likely will never recover those fan leaves...but we will see what happens
    [IMG]

and here is the new lady that went into BB no. 2...she is about 7 days ahead of no. 1
    [IMG]

here she is before the transplant
    [IMG]

it took about 15 mins to get her all cleaned up and i did the best i could...i am sure she is going to be fine....ph was right at 6.0 when i introduced her to her new and last home....

so the big test over the next week will be to see if these 2 ladies take that are in full flower....im guessing should not be a problem :D

  11. Looks great! Whenever I transplant into BBs I notice yellowing too. So, it may not be a N def.

  12. they were yellow before they went in the buckets...now i did have another plant that was yellow and i repotted her and she turned green again....we will see...i really think they are too far gone tho

  13. Ahh don't think like that. I've seen much worse come back from the dead. Do you have any roots accelerators in there?

  14. I thought about going BB after my first, pretty dismal, medical grow. Organics just intrigued me. I also like the ease of it.

I'm here to give you support ND. I might not be the one to ask for help, but I like to look at bud shots :smoking:

  15. I've been more and more interested reading into organics. I started with BB's, so I may have to swap sides one of these days to give it a try.

  16. hey badfish....no accelerators or anything...i think we will be fine...i will just feed them through the top until the roots make their way downwards

  17. i think you should give it a shot...its a lot easier than you can believe...shit some of us have even got it down to water only during the whole veg and flower stage :D

  18. thanks for checking me out over here bro! i have not given up on the organics...i have a nice pile of compost consisting of the guinea pig bedding and vegetative matter that i will be using in the spring for my garden and a plant or 2 indoors...hopefully it turns out ;)

  19. Good morning Dread.

Pullin' up a seat bruh. Going back to get caught up.....

  20. HIGH All, hey ND....hard to say I've never Transplanted a Girl In Bud....I'm Curious Also....Wait till You Grow from a Clone in Veg....Unreal!!!

And the Plant in The Back Right Needs Watering.
