WTF at peoples attitude to hip hop on this forum

Discussion in 'Music genres, Bands and Artists' started by Mr Stoned, Jun 2, 2009.

  1. vincent van gogh went his entire life without selling a painting. commercial success means nothing.

  2. well, thats not true, he sold one painting in his life time; Red Vineyard at Arles. but that is a completely different time frame and subject.

  3. i rele done think nipsey gunna get too big. hes good odnt get me wrong, but he dont got the national appeal. he does look exactly like snoop dog tho.

idk bout u listenin to more music man i do my fair share, trust me.

the only problems i have with ur arguements is that ur like oh cannibus didnt sell, so who cares? but then your quick to say radio rap sucks, but thats the only thing in rap that is selling right now, get it?

and as far as rick ross goes, fuck that dude, never liked him. just get yourself adobe soundbooth u can edit out verses of people u dont wanna hear in the song, for instance u could just keep nas' verse from usual suspects, which i did haha

  4. I used to listen to only rap years ago, I have since branched out now only listen to it only on a rare occasion as I rarely in the mood, so I do know I am not judging it only based on whats on the radio. (Especially considering I haven't turned the radio on in years) :)

  5. The same problem is inherent with all genres of music.

Nobody said the majority knows best.

  6. Metal is a greater and broader genre of music than rap/hiphop.

Give your heart to Satan, not to P Diddle Little or w/e the hell people listen to these days.

  7. i only listen to rap to, but i mean soo many different artists and so many different genre's within rap. i rele do not like any other music. its something bout what they do with words.

fuck radio rap, why do people use that as a comparisson level. those dudes are just making songs they know will get played, so they know they will make money.

dudes need to recognize people like jadakiss, nas, method man and redman, the game, raekwon, busta rhymes, eminem, jay-z, ice cube, fabolous, cassidy, lloyd banks some of the greatest rappers of our times, because many of them have been relevent for years, but the others have carved there own niches for themselves. they all do real hip hop, and not fake pop radio bullshit

wayne was everyones favorite rapper last year, then he did lolipop he started losin all kinds of respect. he sold a 3 million records because woman and younger teens buy cd's, and thats wat lolipop rele applied to. game did a tribute song to rap legends with keisha cole singing a hook and he sold 700,000 records total

eminems return does only 600,000 the first week?
sales should be totally irrelevent in this day n age is what im getting at. but people guage artists success solely based on that, even if they don't mean to.

  8. I agree about the sales and the flaws of radio, a lot of the stuff I listen to doesn't even make enough copies of a record to sell enough to get on the charts. :p

Its not about who else likes it or how popular/tough/cool/etc. it is, music is a subjective art that shouldn't be limited by any terms. Genres are there to simply help categorize the mess. :)

Yeah, I've listened to Cannibus's shit don't get me wrong.

He's just not my kinda rapper ya kno, alot of his production is garbage, but you gotta have alot of cash to get real top shelf production.

the production on rosses latest album was amazing, which is really to bad it's wasted on him. Justice League is definately the best production team out there now. But production sucess can be pretty short lived; ie scott storch.

anyhow im dont wanna argue about cannibus anymore, i dont think he should be up there with the greatest of all time, but everyones entitled to their own opinion.

And Wayne has completely lost it, but he's been recording since he was like 12, so I understand that he's bored with it, why he's branching out into rock/twayne shit. The only 'rap' songs he releases anymore are purily for the radio and his bank account.

I think if Nipsey doesn't get big, then Cali falling off. Everyone big in Cali is behind him, pushing him to the spotlite. Go to datpiff.com or livemixtapes.com and check his shit out if you haven't heard him.

Onto Em, I really think all the hard drug's he's been doing have killed his original flow. And now he beefs with people like Lindsey Lohan and Nick Cannon? Get the fuck outta here with that. Regardless I figured he'd go platinum first week because a whole lot of people will just buy the album because of the name attached.

Jadakisses last album was fucking nut's and only sold 135k first week, but if that was released before pirating came out that shit would be double plat by now. Well probably not because he doesn't have mega appeal, but it definately would be Platinum if album's like Port of Miami got platinum.

but yeah I guess I was the only really attacking anyones musical choice, so my apologies.

    Edit/
    OP I'm with Whateva
the only problems i have with ur arguements is that ur like oh cannibus didnt sell, so who cares? but then your quick to say radio rap sucks, but thats the only thing in rap that is selling right now, get it?

Radio singles suck, that's why we listenen to the other tracks on the album ya dig

    hey bro

have you ever thought, that you can't tell me what "real hip hop is?" what's real hip hop?

real hip hop is whatever type of hip hop is aesthetic to the listener. you can't tell me what's aesthetic to me, ok?

bottom line. if people like shit, people will still like shit. there's no such thing as "real hip hop".

you're acting like you're an elderly parent complaining about the new music their children is listening to. ITS CHANGE

hip hop changes over time (just like anything else), you just need to understand that.

  11. to tygatyga, yeah nipsey does got support, but i still think jay rock n ya boy are better than him.

and yeah i know the radio singles suck, they usually always do. people judge eminems entire album on his 3 singles he put out this time. it rele is a good album if u listen to it

he beefed with people like n sync, lfo, britnay spears and all them but now cuz its lindsay and nick cannon its rediculous?

  12. I don't remember him beefing with n sync or lfo, but LOL @ that, I know he's just gotta be doing it for publicity but when he doesn't shit like that it just looks stupid to me. Even with he beefed with Ja, he was losing that battle until 50 erased him from the scene.

But yeah I've only heard the radio tracks off of Relapse so far, i'll give it a listen later today.

And yeah Jay Rock is dope as fuck too.

LMFAO that logic is that of an imbosil. Canibus hasn't been a commercial success, but who gives a fuck? He's still made a couple of mil from doing what he loves. He might not have made the millions that 50 Cent and co made but he got immense critical acclaim and the album Rip the Jacker will go down in history. Yeah he's fallen off, everyone knows he has. I wasn't saying he is the most consistent emcee, or is at the top of his game, because he hasnt been for a long time. However, For Whom the Beats Toll was definitely a step in the right direction with some really sick tracks on it like 'Magnum Innominandum' and 'Father Author Poor Pauper' that outstrips most of the rappers you've made. I'm judging him on his best work, and his best work was mind blowing, something entirely unique and fresh that was entirely it's own style. The fact is he's lacked good production his whole career. Only Stoupe from Jedi Mind Tricks brought out the best in him, and he's never made an album at all as good as Rip The Jacker before or since. I'm not saying he's the greatest emcee ever, that's an impossible thing to classify. If I had to name one I'd probably go for Rakim because of how he did for hip hop what Hendrix did for classic rock. It's purely subjective who's the best, it depends entirely upon your critical disposition and opinion. But seriously...

I really fail to understand how you can listen to these tracks and tell me he's not that good. Seriously...

    thanks for your opinion :)
people dont get it, they'll always have a different idea of what music is.

just like physical appearance. everyone is different.

  16. Thanks for the -rep  I can't really fault your list of rappers though, most of them would correspond with my idea of a good emcee.

  17. that's why i -repp'd you, had nothing to do with you having a different opinion of mine.

now, i don't like Gucci, Tony yayo, or Lloyd Banks, but some people do. that's like me -repping every single person here who likes death metal, because I DESPISE it

and honestly? everyones got a good song or two

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flw5iEAf-V0]YouTube - Lloyd Banks - On Fire[/ame]

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGiVJkCHWVI"]YouTube - Gucci Mane video "So Icy"[/ame]

idk about yayo, because i just dont like the kid at all lol

  18. Aight fair enough. But another reason I -repped them is because I knew it would only count as neutral rep. It was just a statement expressing my outrage and them advertising these blatantly wack emcees as the best in the business. I wouldn't have given them -rep had I 5000 posts and 8 rep bars. As it was, my actions were a harmless protest.

  19. Lol, if you want a good laugh download Yayo's new mixtape 'Swine Flu' @ thisis50.com

i understand he's 50's boy and everything and he's probably eaten some charged for him but Yayo is fucking garbage, 50 could just give me producer credits on some shit and not bother with recording Yayo's shit.

and why exactly do people care about rep on here? it means nothing.
