"Wrong forum" posts getting deleted

Discussion in 'General Forum Feedback' started by Royksopp, Jan 22, 2010.

  1. Recently I've seen a lot of threads getting deleted because they were posted on the wrong forum. I also see a number of threads that were posted in the wrong forum getting moved to the correct forum. Why can't mods just move the threads posted in the wrong forum to the correct one like they do with other threads? Thanks in advance.

  2. Well I'm not a mod but I'm assuming some threads don't seem like threads that should even be here. So when those type are in the wrong section they get deleted. Had they been in the correct section they might have had a chance, but once a mod notices one thing wrong, hes sure to notice another. A good post can be in the wrong section, and in that case it is likely to be moved and not deleted. I guess its up to the discretion of the mods as to what posts are worth moving, or being deleted.

  3. But I see the mods telling the people when they delete the thread that it was posted in the wrong forum and for example it should be posted in Pandora's box. Why can't they just move it there instead of deleting the entire thread?

  4. yeah this.

none of us are gonna move a thread about drinking cough syrup from general to the box.. or a "my mom found my weed" thread from general to (wherever those go) :p

also.. it kind of gets out of hand with some members just posting wherever, knowing that the mods are gonna just move them over for them.
It's really the responsibility of the poster to put stuff in the right section.. but most good threads will get moved and not deleted.

  5. The threads that get moved are usually threads that have a good amount of effort put into them by the OP... And they're usually threads that weren't blatantly mis-placed (like a controversial thread that got put in General, instead of the Box, for example).

Whereas a thread that gets deleted might go along the lines of:

"I know this is the wrong forum... but this one gets more views..."

    or

"OMG I'm sOoO hIgH lolz ain't this a hAwT BonG?"

If the OP actually put some effort into the thread, or if it's a close call as to which forum they belong in, they usually get moved instead of deleted.

  6. exactly. I move a lot of threads, but every now and then there are threads that are redundant or kind of useless. Those threads get deleted to give another reminder to everyone on the board that they need to be aware of our topic organization.

  7. I'm not complaining or anything, but I posted a thread earlier and it got moved.

It was about Cheech and Chong going on tour. Was just something I thought everyone here might like to know about. Posted the link so everyone could see when they were coming to their town. I posted it in the General section. But, it got moved to humor.

    Here's my confusion:

Granted, it's about Cheech and Chong, but it's not a joke or a funny story

And right now when I looked, there's 17 viewers in the humor section vs. 220 in general...so, it kinda bummed me out to see it moved to where there isn't much activity.

Like I said though, I ain't complaining...just kinda explainin why I put it where I did

EDIT: And, thank you to whoever moved it instead of deleting it

  8. It was probably moved there because... wait for it... Cheech and Chong are comedians! ;)
