Obviously, this raises a serious question: how did the feds know what Catalano and her husband were looking for online?
Remember, since the beginning of the NSA scandal, the U.S. government has fiercely denied claims that they collect data on American citizens.
The U.S. government is not “allowed to spy on Americans – although there are exceptions of which it takes advantage,” the Atlantic notes. “Its PRISM program, under which it collects internet content, does not include information from Americans unless those Americans are connected to terror suspects by no more than two other people.”

So how did the so-called joint terrorism task force know about Catalano?
“It's possible that one of the two of them is tangentially linked to a foreign terror suspect, allowing the government to review their internet activity,” the report continues.
“After all, that ‘no more than two other people' ends up covering millions of people. Or perhaps the NSA, as part of its routine collection of as much internet traffic as it can, automatically flags things like Google searches for ‘pressure cooker' and ‘backpack' and passes on anything it finds to the FBI,” it adds.
Of course, any number of possible factors could have triggered the fed's interest in the Catalano's – and that's the scariest part of her account:

They mentioned that they do this about 100 times a week. And that 99 of those visits turn out to be nothing. I don't know what happens on the other 1% of visits and I'm not sure I want to know what my neighbors are up to.

If these reports are accurate, it means that roughly 100 times per-week a group of armed men visit U.S. citizens at their homes to search their property for reasons that may include their online searches.
    That's a little unnerving.

So, I am thinking about terminating by grass city account now guys, They do this thing 100 times a week? Won't be long until I get a fed visit. This is proof that they are spying on American citizens without a warrant in direct contradiction to what Obama said. Shit just got real boys and girls

  2. Don't delete your account. That's silly. Who's controlling you now?

  3. They don't have enough armed men to show up to every kids house who searched the word Weed on google.

    this i can promise you

  4. So they know you like pot! BFD! Over 50% of the American public believes medical use should be legalized! We now have 20 states and DC with medical use! If that were their criteria for snooping, they would be all over me! I have even mentioned the possibility of a second American Revolution now and then. (No government lasts forever!

Incidentally, I have had the FBI at my door a couple of times, but always about other people (a friend who escaped custody (a long crazy story), and an illegal immigrant ring down the street.... but as always, I knew nothing about all that! :confused_2: ! Just a poor dumb housewife! lol

You can choose to either live your life hiding in fear, or just go about your daily business like the rest of us do! Canceling your account is over-reacting!

  5. He wasn't referring pot, he was more along the lines of his anti government stance and posts.

  6. well it's obvious they've been doing this for years however they've got bigger fish to fry and not potheads unless you've got a huge grow going on.

  7. dont google how pressure cooker bombs are made

  8. Its the principle

  9. I would think they have bigger fish to fry too but apparently curiosity will get you detained.

    Thou whilst only liveth once.

  10. That's wrong. 50% support legalizing recreational. 80% support medical.

  11. Did anybody read my OP besides Maruzu this has nothing to do with pot. This would have to do with my voluntaryist beliefs and political oppression because of them. If they are visiting peoples houses for typing in pressure cooker on google, you damn well know they will be visiting peoples houses for terms regarding libertarian or anti government beliefs.

  12. I typed in pressure cooker on google when the boston bombing happened because I never really knew what it was and I wanted to see how big it was to see how one could manage to put it into a back pack.

I didn't get a visit but I doubt my work is being monitored. Its not like I was trying to build a fucking bomb, that's ridiculous.

I swear the feds are paranoid pot heads smoking up all the evidence. This is insane.

  13. If you delete your GC account, the terrorists win.

  14.
    yeah..

i was always worried more about posting political opinion on here than a weed grow for sure.

  15. "Over 50% of the American public" - 80 % is over 50%, but you are right! lol

I love the part when he asks them if they've ever googled things out of curiosity and not intent.

  18.
The fact that Washington is spying on everyone in the world is old news, James.

Snowden came forward in early/mid June and if you've been following Glen Greenwald's columns, this story would just confirm what is already known.

They are reading and saving everything you or I do online. "NSA tool collects 'nearly everything a user does on the internet" <-- Greenwald's column yesterday.

The only way to escape Washington's prying eyes is to go offline completely and never use your phone. I read a week or two ago that since the Snowden exposure, the top secret parts of Russia's government have bought a bunch of old-fashioned typewriters to use for sensitive communications. They're not going online cuz they can't take the chance that Washington is snooping on them too.
