My mom works in a doctors office she got me a part time gig cleaning up the office at the end of the day every Monday, Wednesday and Friday i get paid $210 at the end of the month and the doctor is going to write me a letter of recommendation after he closes his practice in 6 months (btw I'm a broke college student) is this worth the time or should i look for a different job i don't have any experience
Forget the money, the reference and your experience documented will be well worth it, especially if you find another doctors office to work at after that.
^^^ this in a situation like that its not the paycheck you're after but the experience and the reccomendation that will help lead you to a better job and a bigger paycheck..usually.
I completely agree with what people have said. In a country where so many our unemployed, any job you can get is good. Also the experience and reference will allow you to climb the job ladder- you have to get your foot in somewhere.
Same thing as every one else said. You really won't be doing much hard "cleaning" anyway. Spray and wipe down some things. Dust some things. Clean the floors. It can't be too hard and will take 2 hours tops. The best part is that you can likely bring how ever many friends as you want to clean it faster. If you have a close friend that wouldn't mind helping out for some smokeouts then all the better.
Experience in cleaning an office? Vacuuming, wiping down surfaces, straightening up? What kind of recommendation would you hope to gain from this? Treat it as a little extra money, nothing more.
Experience is experience and a recommendation is pretty valuable when looking for work. Work experience period is also. Regardless of the work, if you have someone that can put in a good word for you in the future you should accept it. Employers will hire a kid with experience cleaning and mopping while actually having a job over someone who's never worked before
I understand what you are saying but still hold to my earlier statement. I cleaned offices for a while in my early teens and all that ever came of it was a little spending money.
A little extra spending money is always good too. A couple hundred extra dollars a month would go a long way for me. But I agree with onebadbanana, too. Sounds like this would be OP's first job, so just having that bit of job experience and an employer recommendation will help a lot when it comes to finding another job later. It's harder to get a job when you have zero experience and no references.
For someone who has little to no work experience, any work experience is good. They could recommend that you are a reliable and hard working individual. Give a background on your work ethic etc.. Idk bro.. I walked dogs for my first job and that recommendation led me to other jobs.. Yeah it wasn't a hard job, but I was responsible for peoples animals, which are a part of their family. Not to mention some of these people were rich as fuck and I had keys to probably like 60 houses at any given time.
Just be sure you have everything set between you guys even if it is just verbal. Last thing you want is to have the guy working you far more then he is compensating you for. For the record, a cleaning company would charge 3 times as much for a small office 3 times a week. I kid you not, call around and ask after you have seen the place and know exactly what's expected of you. Thats great about the letter of recommendation. Don't be afraid to ask for a bit of professional embellishment if you know what I mean. When I was doing the networking and administration of the computers at this machine shop gig I had I asked for just that. I wanted some spiffy title and an amazing letter of rec. on company letter head with true, signed in ink signatures by hand. By then I got to know a number of the office workers pretty close so I had them put something down on paper too. Something more personal. Al of that stuff looks great but in a resume. Good luck with this, it's a pretty great opportunity as long as it's on the up and up.
It's a low hour, minimum wage job so nobody would take it for the money. Is this your first job? If so the letter will be worth more than the money. Otherwise you could do a lot better. Oh, and if you take the job...work hard. Now for the speech: If you're early you're on time, if you're on time you're late, if you're late you're fired. If you have time to lean, you have time to clean. It's a poor craftsman who blames his tools.
