As far as looking for money on GC I think you're out of luck, bro. However, this would be a great place to show your work . I also write and record music. Let's see what ya have
I am quite aware of that -____- Neither is Thissongissick.com and they sponsor Tayyib Ali. Just a question that I don't know the answer to, bro. Relax. Smoke some weed, man.
dont know but itd be a good place to get your name out. since most rappers smoke weed and this site is a fat network for weed smokers.
Awww man, I haven't recorded ANYTHING in the past 6 months? But I've been writing everyday and my flow and lyrics have changed dramatically. Gotten a lot better but damn...only thing I have up is back when I actually started lol. Fuck it. It's ALRIGHT. I'll be around this side of the forum with some updated music when I get back to recording. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hZH03IEsyw&feature=related]Fame & Gameboy - Drunk Dialing (Freestyle) - YouTube[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEHOZfk4kw8&feature=related]Fame & Hood - Early Mornin' Joint Flow - YouTube[/ame] I'm first on both. My first recordings, go easy on me lol
Indeed. Get something together man. Worse thing we can say is we don't like it. Even that is a win/win. You get your music out.. and you find out what you can/need to change Live life to the fullest, bro
I'm just going to record for fun...I've been thinking this whole year of how to break into the game. I finally thought of all the right moves but god damn...the amount of money it takes is quite...out of my budget lol I'll probably get to recording and just release Grasscity Mixtapes lol. Surprised there isn't any lol
how much money does it take? i was thinking of coming up. i have the opportunity for it. probably a couple g's right?
May have some pointers here... 1.) What does your name mean? Not knocking it at all just curious Obviously I know what Fame means but WHY did you pick it? 2.) Your guys' quality is decent. That is usually a deal breaker when I hear an under ground/up-n-coming artist. It is not the best, but it is def something you could slap on a mix tape or something. 3.) Now this is where most people see me as a "Simon Cowell". I just... can't seem to get into lyrics like this. Your metaphors are nice, no doubt. However... speak about what is real... what you feel.. what you live.. I heard one of your lines say something along the lines of "I don't care who is at the top, I got next". To me... music should be real. I see you listen to Wiz! Great artist. His old shit is better than his new but.. what artits' isn't? Check out his words though... what's he talking about? Smoking weed all fucking day and chillin... What do you think he does all day? Smokes weed and fucking chills! EDIT: I went back and took another listen. If there is ANYTHING you SHOULD take LIGHTLY it is number 3. I personally like the first better than the second just because of what is said. The talent is there... you just need to dig a bit deeper. What's going on in your life? Talk about it... Not trying to steal your thread but I LOVE music and ANYONE trying to do it. Check out a few of my bars: Most my problems in my life are due from when we split apart/ Kept my problems bottled up deep inside my shattered heart/ You left without a warning your decision had no thought/ But who am I to say what's what, what is right and what is not/ Keep it up man. It's there.... Start diggin'
It could take 0 dollars You just have to prove you are worthy... However, I don't thinking being in the game is all that we build it up to be. Listen to artists that have been in the mix a while. They fucking hate it... Imagine not being able to go the store and buy a pack of papers without everyone flippin' out? You couldn't even smoke in peace without everyone ALL fucking over you. Everything you do is big news... and everything you DON'T do is even bigger news... Maybe it is just me... the money? Yes.. that would be fucking amazing.. Hell even the fame would be great at times. Just be careful what you wish for... You just might get it.
A couple Gs can get you some spot in Vibe magazine, main ad on Datpiff, or WorldStarHipHop. It all depends. But you definitely need more than a couple Gs to actually break into the game. To fully get in? Let's see. First, you NEED a team. You can't do it alone. It won't work like that, no matter how nice you are. Recording Process - $ ??? to over $2000 I GREATLY suggest that you look into mixing and mastering yourself. It will save you A LOT of money. Remember, you're starting out. You're not industry level. You're starting off as a mixtape artist on the grind. Quality doesn't need to be perfect but just make sure you take advantage of the production side. Two thirds of the game is lyrics and flow and the rest is production. Remember that. You MUST invest in the best Studio Monitors you can afford...a pair should run at least $500 IMO. These are the ears. You NEED that. The microphone should be at least $125. You can make it work. Trust me. You'd be surprised. A nice mic preamp is great as well. Just learn and practice mixing and master. You will definitely need this. Also, invest in a Pop Filter along with a Reflexion Shield or PVB [http://www.realtraps.com/p_pvb.htm] With this alone, your recording quality should be good. Not commercial quality, but good enough to compete with other rappers on their grind. Image - $0 to over $1500 You need to capture your image. You can think of something really simple...or go all out. Really depends on your style of rapping. It's quite inevitable to get a little swag going on though. But like I said, according to my research...you kind of need some nice swag going on. Photography/Music Videos - $0 to over $2000 You see bro...it's best to have a team. If you have a cameraman with his own high quality camera, you'll be set. But from the camera to the computer being built to handle the video editing? Shit bro. Could be over $2000. Plus...it depends if you're going to edit them yourself or have someone else edit them. It all varies, man. Just know that this is what runs shit right now. Also...you need to get some photoshoots done. It's just to play the part. You can't have a simple facebook default. You need to give the audience an image. Feel me? Depending on where you go or how it gets done...could be free or could be a small dent in your pocket. Advertising - $1,000 to over $20,000 This is actually the bread and butter of everything. You need to get a DJ to host your mixtape...a big name DJ at that. Most I could have ever done was DJ Green Lantern and DJ Big Mike. I would kill to have "the evil geniussss!" shouted over a track lol. But along with that, you want some features from some nice underground rappers. That alone could run you a couple hundred to a couple thousand. Then online advertising, which should be the MAIN form of advertising. To have your stuff on WorldStar , DatPiff, and any other hip hop website costs money. Depending on how many sites you want to advertise your video on [and definitely what type of advertising], that could run you well over a couple Gs. Now...the actual physical mixtape. You can get some nice distribution deals...but you won't be making a lot of that money back. You are a NO NAME artist. So it'd be best to go to colleges and give out your mixtapes for free. Not that, but also rent out some "selling space" at some malls and set up mixtape giveaways. This will certainly depend on the amount of mixtapes you have. My plan was 10,000 copies...and that's $10,000 from CDBaby I think. Don't remember the site. What about ads around your city? Gotta be locally known first right? This will definitely run some money. Not sure on the prices but it shall be a lot. Like my thoughts? To advertise on city buses and billboards? Moneyyyy, boy...moneyyy. You will also need your own website. You might have to pay someone to do it but it shouldn't be a lot. You can do that...or just keep a blog, bro. No biggie. Just KEEP IN TOUCH with your fan base. Always. Keep them involved. I think this is all. Not sure. It all depends on how you want to approach this. Just know that if you want to become a rapper...it can't be a part time thing. It's full time and it's all or nothing. But I think that if you're actually good, can advertise yourself correctly, and do all the above...you can get both feet in and be able to rep your city. Just my thoughts. Any other thoughts on this would be great. I've never shared this plan with anyone lol EDIT I completely forgot about the recording process. Added to the top of the post.
Man, I definitely appreciate this post. I really digg the critique man. I will definitely take it into account Thanks, bro. EDIT: Believe it or not...it meant Forgiving All My Enemies and then Chris Brown came out with that damn mixtape. I was furious. But lately, I've been thinking about changing it to Eddie Nashton [The Riddler's real name from Batman] lol
What in the world do you mean by keep it real? Hype and fake bullshit? What the fuck are you talking about? Rap is a business. As a rapper, you are the product and you must know how to market yourself. Making it in the rap game isn't easy, son. That isn't hype and fake bullshit. It's real talk and important moves that must be made if you trying to take your focus on your grind to new levels. You think you can just get discovered off youtube? It doesn't work like that, b.
I can see why you would want it, but seriously, its pretty unrealistic. One, why would GC sponsor a rapper? Two, its better to get recognized under your own talents. And third, and most important of all, I seriously doubt GC has the cash for that It aint easy, but you're trying to take the easy route. Like I said, if you're good enough, you dont need sponsors. Immortal Technique is very well known and he isnt sponsored or signed to any major label. And despite your feelings about this group, the Insane Clown Posse has made a huge impact all on their own
Not trying to be an ass...but with music, there isn't an easy route. Like...it's literally about getting your music heard. You gotta advertise. And if you want to advertise well, it's going to cost money...but the exposure is worth it. And I'm not exactly looking for sponsor, it was just a question. But if they did, I'd definitely try to get sponsored. If it IS the easy route, why not take it? Why complicate things? But I guess the point I'm trying to make is....some people can get by on skill alone, but that's extremely rare. For others? It's still hard to break through...but to get yourself known, you gotta get your music heard. You can't rely on just throwing it up on youtube and waiting for people to come across it. You gotta throw it in front of them. Gotta put your music in places where it'll get viewed. Feel me? Idk if I'm making sense...but I sure hope I am lol
