Work, Life, BS

  1. :smoke: Hey been lurking a while so figured I'd post whats recent in my life it being relevant. If cool reading about all the shit that everyone has to deal with, shit that is brought on mostly by society IMO.

Anyway I'm 21, been financially recovering from the year or so prior. Gotta party at some point right? bla bla bla I get this job at Les Schwab tires, gonna be all responsible and stuff. So I work my ass off for like six months straight. They take notice but no raise... the hours suck and the schedule sucks. The job at this point sucks and I hate it. I keep going tho giving up most of my life for this job. Get a raise a year and a month into the job, get a great paycheck with ot. Things are looking up! Of course I'm working one day look out to the lot at work (see and greet ppl all day) I see this guy and instantly I said FUCK... I knew right away. piss test man.

So I piss he is rude while I read the paper that I have to give personal info and sign. piss....fail.... jobs done. Shoulda seen it coming, but didn't care for the job at the same time. I was only staying until the new year to collect the bonus. Happy new year right lol

I was not the only one. buddy j has 2 kids and a newborn... out on his ass, another buddy b Has a new born, and buddy a has a family and was currently moving. Then there was a few that barely passed.

What I don't understand is from a business stand point these were all guys that could hella work. We got shit done! Its a small shop 6 bays and in August we set a record for sales at the store and in the region, nearly double what the next store was getting and they are at least twice as big. Statistically Oct and Nov are the biggest months. So we could have set a higher record making hella bank. But now they have to hire new dude that can get shit right and that are slow ect. That means that liability claims will go up and sale will go down. Just my thought, seems it should be obvious.

I smoke after work, helps me let all that shit go. My bosses didn't care when they found out (they get tested to at random with us) If you get tires put on your car... chances are that a stoner put them on... even all the new hires I'm sure fooled the wiz quiz on the way in. if its big o they don't test... so it may be more than just weed in their system. More thoughts on what I see. I think that a new guy can forget to torque a wheel just a much as a guy with over a year experience, who smokes after work. And if a wheel fell off and you have it in your system done... I've seen new hires do some dumb shit put wheels on backwards, put cars on the ground with no lug nuts, just stupid shit.

So I sit her now looking for a job, in an area that has just recently gotten over populated. So there are no decent jobs, I accept that I won't make as much already. Buddies all in the same situation. Its Just sad where we are at in our society and our economy. It makes me think that there is little hope for the future and it makes me not want kids at all, looking at what my parents had to deal with, and then my generation, It can only get worse, I don't want to send a kid through that.

I'm not motivated to jump back into the workforce lol thought I would share here, for the most part gc is full of like minded ppl
A quote I found today thought was good for this topic

"If skilled, educated people cannot obtain employment because of an abhorrent, detestable urine test, that is an indictment against society, not the individual. A cruel practice and what a loss to the economy."

open to hear opinions peace out

  2. you should go make a blog

  3. I see where your going with all this..

its not like there arent plenty of jobs that dont DT. You making a big deal about it isnt going to get you a job. from the sound of it id say the exact opposite. Why let this one job ruin your whole perspective on making a living??

B and J got kids or whatever, its not like ANYONE wants to work. But I garunetee you those other kids got other things to worry about like providing for a family. You got it easy (easier than B and J who have kids to feed) learn and change while you can

  4. Where is he is trying to go with this is.... He lost his job because of something that didn't affect his work. From the sounds of it, he wasn't even high while at work. It's sad when justice is firing a guy from his job because he smokes Marijuana and now has nothing to support his family. That IS something that needs to be made a big deal out of. You SHOULD make a big deal out of ANY injustice.

  5. like i said not all places DT, guy even said he saw it coming. making a deal out of it isnt going to correct this injustice. Although getting a job somewhere that doesnt DT would

where is he going with this??? I guess in my mind I see this rant as an excuse not to work because he got fired for failing a test.

If every place drug tests then theres no point in working right?? <-- I think this is what the op is saying. I disagree

  6. I agree, go get a job somewhere else but that doesn't fix the injustice. The injustice is people prying into my business when it doesn't affect anyone but me. If the government takes my land without just compensation do I just move and take it? No. I am not saying that he should call the company and complain or things of that sort. I just think that something should be done to where these companies aren't allowed to base me getting a job on what I do at home. If we don't make a big deal out of things that are wrong, nothing will be changed. We have to stand up to our government and make them realize that the PEOPLE decide, not them.

  7. Your business does effect others besides you Auto_rock

owners of that business see anyone wholl fail a DT as a big liability.
An owner of a business is RESPONSIBLE for the people they hire yada yada you see what im saying??

  8. you wrote a real good letter, with just a little tweaking you could write that down on paper and send it to all the top people at the company, you know the ceo, every member of the board of directors etc. ..like you say the company is now at a disadvantage because of its drug testing policy.

Maybe you can tell me why companies do drug testing, I mean what's in it for them? ..do they get lower insurance rates or what??

"just because you give a company 8 hours of your day why do they feel they can control the other 16?"

  9. That is where personal responsibility as an adult comes into play. I, as an adult, should know that if I go to work intoxicated then bad things could happen. This guy, by the sounds of it was NO liability. He smoked AFTER work. He wasn't intoxicated during, but AFTER. That is an injustice and is wrong. What is more amazing is how alcohol is not tested for. Alcohol is just as debilitating as any other drug yet what is the difference? The legality of it. An alcoholic is much more of a liability than a stoner.

If I go home after a day of work and I decide to smoke a joint, that should be my decision alone. I should not face ANY consequences. If I take the habit outside of my own house and I fuck up, then yes, I should be held responsible.
