http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2013/may/22/woolwich-two-shot-in-police-incident-live-coverage Anyone heard of this yet? Apparently a soldier got hacked to death in broad daylight.
saw it this afternoon on my local news. i wasnt really gonna say anything on the subject because i dont know what to say. people dont expect this behavior in developed nations. pretty surreal how the guy actually approached a guy with a camera and spouted all that stuff. hands bloody holding large knives. maybe its the places ive lived but i would not be any of the people just standing around. almost like they didnt think it was real, like a movie shoot or something. i love Texas gun laws. are there no guns in England besides police?
With the majority of terrible news time often taken up by American interests, particularly as of late, it's a slap of reality that nowhere is immune. Despite the dirt I'll spout off about London, that city is my home. Those are my old stomping grounds. It was a terrible act, but I'm really impressed by how the country (edit: I should say, authorities) is reacting.
Scary shit! Doesnt do much for the tension in the country either, apparently the EDL were out up to their normal tricks tonight (using this tragedy as an excuse to be racist, getting pissed, attacking police, trying to burn Mosques), and ive seen a whole lot of misinformed racism on social media networks as well. Are you guys Brits? I saw this on BBC News 24's coverage of ABC News, but I dont know how much its been reported on over there.
Dude, in England, even the police go unarmed. Save for a taser and billy club. The only cops who are routinely armed are special response units like the ones who took these dudes down.
roflcones. so british laws made this crime much easier? but then again, if this were an american thing everything would have happened with guns. only in america the soldier that would be targeted would also have a gun. ive never met a soldier, active or retired that didnt keep a piece on them.
@AR Toasty How do you feel about police being un-armed, and the English attitude to guns? I gather youre from England, now living in the States. Its a completely different debate so im not trying to spark that off, just curious as to your views. In my opinion, I think the less guns on the streets the better, but then im from sleepy Norwich and we dont exactly see much trouble Haha just seen your location is down under, ignore that then!
English living in Australia. GC loves the gun debate and I hate the gun debate, and if experience has taught me anything, this is about to turn into a gun debate. I'm with you, man. The answer to less gun violence is less guns on the street. The facts speak for themselves, though the whole issue has to do with a lot more than just firearm accessibility. As for the (de)arming of police... I can flip both sides of the coin. Our coppers tend to get themselves into enough trouble without a pistol on their hip, but then again, what might have been prevented if our frontline had that extra tool of defence? It's tricky.
but the attack took place within 20 feet of a military base right? if so, where were the other soldiers?
it happened as the soldier was walking out the barracks, probably walking home. He got run over by the attacker then hacked to death. They tried to film it and tried to cut his head off. They didnt run, they stood there and waited for police. The attacker was a British citizen who was Christian converted to Islam. People in the UK are going mad, many muslims arent going to school today cos theyre scared they are gonna get beat up and blamed for it. EDL was out on the streets last night for no good reason with nothing to do. They did have a gun! But they didn't use it i do not know why.
