Wondering If I Missed A Step, Decarb To Coconut Oil

I began by grinding my material (just under 6 grams) into a fine near powder consistancy.  Next, I heated my oven that 240-260*F.  I used an analog meat thermometer which I frequently use becacause it reads quit accurately, first I boiled some water to calibrate my therm.  I placed the thermometer so that it was hanging in the rack with the needle not touching, when I found the temperature setting on the oven that kept the therm. in range I placed the material in the oven on a pirex dish and covered it keeping the therm. hanging in the oven so I could check the temp.  I initially planned to let it set in there for a couple hours but I did some more reading and I decided to take it out after 45 min.  The material had browned and when pinched felt dry but did not crumble, it did not clump together but had a good "feeling" to it consistancy wise.  I then place this into a glass jar and let it set over night; this was only because I had forgotten to purchase coconut oil.

Today I brought a pot of water to a boil and after reducing the heat and confirming a constant water temp 180*F-200*F I placed the material into a 1/2 cup metal measuring cup wich was positioned to sit floating in the water.  The stainless steel measuring cup has only oil and plant material in it, there has been no mixing of oil and water.  The water is being used to more easily maintain temperature.

    My questions are;
    Have I already screwed up?
And since I've already decarbed do I need to allow the active ingrediants to bind to the oil in this manner (if I did it correctly thus far) for 30 min, an hour, two hours?

I plan to allow it to bind to the oil via cup in hot water method for an hour and then I will remove from the water.

Have I missed any steps thus far?  And aside from cheescloth straining do I need to do anything else to have fully prepped coconut oil?  I do not mean as far as using the oil in a recipe I mean to have this coconut oil "completed" and infused for later use.  Do I need to freeze prep even though I did not mix the oil and water?

Coconut oil and especially lecithin are the most effective vehicles you can find when it comes to promoting the absorption of another chemical, or chemicals, more effects than alcohol and all other common kitchen cooking oils. :) It's why both are used in the pharmaceutical industry to enhance both the transdermal (topical) as well as oral bioavailability or absorption of different medications, so by making a canna oil this way, you'll have the fastest, and most complete and efficient absorption when taken orally, and it can allow your medicine to penetrate up to several inches below the surface of the skin when applied topically!

Most of the below recipes and tutorials can be found in the CannaPharm thread, if you're interested (where the oil links bring you). [IMG]

There is a partial Table of Contents in my blog, to help you find them a bit quicker (but for now, the direct links in the Table don't work due to the format changes that occurred during the GC update, however the 'post code' or post/entry numbers are still accurate!.... so if you're interested in a particular recipe from the Table of Contents, for now, simply copy the link location, make note of the post number, and just use the search feature in the CannaPharm to find the post number specified within the link!).

Then, you have oil based drinkables...

And with a tincture, you can expand and 'lighten' your drinkable options... glycerin and alcohol tinctures do require
more patience than oils, during processing, however.

    Even sushi is easy!

Alcohol and glycerin hash tinctures in the sushi rice (which calls for mirin, a rice wine, sugar and vinegar... some
sushi rice recipes also call for oil, so hash oil may be used as well), and a touch of alcohol tincture with the water,
that is used to hydrate the wasabi. [IMG]

And if you want something really simple... just pop your oil into capsules when you're done!

These keep better than any other edible.. on a shelf, in a desk, or in the freezer.. and they're always ready for eating. :hello:

(Some smoking concentrate made the same way as the above caps, minus the oil of course, with a faster wash/rinse...)

And here I was hoping to sift through a few response to weed out a post by someone with just a little experience that mosey over and throw me a bone but dayum...the grand master of edibles has come and SPOON fed me from the encyclopedia of cannabis cookery themselves...so much info!!!  Thank you very much :D  My brain tingles with anticipation of furthur reading.  EVEN gave me a guide map to follow.

    yup, screwed it up.

My herb was not of the greatest quality which was why I had hoped to salvage some by making it edible, smoking it just wasn't cutting it.

First technical error was that I did not seal my container while it was in the oven...just put a plate over the pyrex dish.  While the flat surface diameter of the plate was enough to totally fit over the pyrex dish that is far from sealed...just covered.

My product looked similar in color to that in your vid but it was very loose and not of the same consistancy as yours.  I wouldn't say it was powdery, it felt like it MIGHT stick together a little if encouraged...but nothing like in your vid.  But again, shitty weed makes shitty edibles...moving on to technical error #2 & 3

When heating the oil/decarb over boiling water I did so for almost an hour, possibly too long for best results...and again covered but not sealed.

My ending coconut oil when solidified is an olive green but that doesn't mean much ;)  Still I'll try what I have out and see.  But hey for next time at least I have a better understanding of the procedures.  Thanks again BadKittySmiles!!!

  6. honestly BKS those posts are so long I don't think most people are benefiting from them.... just saying.  guides are reasonable but a huge post summing up 3 methods and links and what's happening etc.... a little overwhealming.  I have high speed internet and my computer is STILL loading all the images....

    not cool.,

I've never once had a single complaint, in the three years I've been sharing the above post. The only new addition would be the video tutorials, and people have been especially grateful that I've started including them in the post, too! :)

And if you notice, OP actually THANKED me for doing so! :D

Did you forget that GC is still in the middle of the update? I know it all seems like it's working, but they're still in progress, and I've tried to open one of these threads myself over the last few days and it took FOREVER to load, but today it's been fast as ever, and unlike yours, I don't have very good net speed myself. :)

With the thousands of thanks, and one complaint over the same post, we can only assume you've woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. :)

In spite of the whole "not cool", I realize that we all have rough days, and I still hope you enjoy that hemp wick I sent you.  ;)

  8. indeed.  I still think it would be easier to read if it was formatted to be easier to 'scan' if you know what I mean.

I apologize I could have been more diplomatic about saying so.

I definitely agree, on certain days since the update, longer pages have been harder to load and scroll through, than on other days... on one of those difficult days, I did actually make a streamlined version of the above, minus most of the photos (you'll probably see that post around in one or two threads as people re-bump them :p ), then the following day it was working and loading fine again, so I went back to the above version. :)

I think it has something to do with how the forum now sometimes does, and sometimes doesn't (security purposes?), store the photos in our net cache?

It seems like, even on the days it works fine, it's actually re-loading them from scratch and certain days the system has a harder time with it.

I've just been waiting for the dust to settle after the update before making any major changes again on how I use the forum, I remember during their last update they lost ALL my photo albums for just over THREE months, and it was so hard for me to get anything done, I kept trying and trying, old posts were harder to find so I had to collect what I could into a word document to make it easier, and it even changed my posting habits for a little while after it was fixed... I was rusty on the forum tools by the time I could post photos and find old content more easily again! :p
I believe they actually had to abandon that update in the end, and when they finally got my photos back, and it led to me baking them up a quick cake (but since I'm no where near the techies, I froze it by the slice, and it was my indulgence-medicine for the next week or so :p ).

I let myself get too frustrated back then, so this time around I'm trying to be a little more patient with them... my photos were gone for most of last week, but they're already back and I didn't even bring it up to the guys! :D

They're an awesome team, and I'm just glad we didn't have to lose the site altogether for more than part of a day! In exchange, we get to discover some bugs for them :p Forums were at one time places where larger volumes of information could be shared with ease, the infrastructure supported large amounts of text and contributor photos even on a dial-up connection because their own infrastructure was basic, but these days the newer systems seem more geared towards handling phone-sized texts and abbreviations. :(

But I know they'll get everything working again a lot sooner than last time, they went in really prepared, and put so much time and effort into this upgrade.... once everything's finalized, and we know how the site is going to be running for the long-term, if it's still causing photos to load a bit rough, I'll definitely be reverting back to the more abbreviated posts, and I'll just add a few extra minutes to the time I take personalizing them for the OP when some photos and text-excerpts are more appropriate than others.  :)

No hard feelings! It's tough to see how people intend a post to sound on the net, it probably just came off harsher in my head on a written page than you meant for it to (and I'm just as frustrated with the pages loading more 'whimsically' than usual during the post-update fixes :) ).

  10. Well i went ahead and tested my oil pull...and I must say, I've never been so happy to be wrong :) It's all gone now :( but was quit nice.
