hi guys I’ve got 3x 288s Atreum 288.2 LED Board, Horticulture Full Spectrum Grow Light Panel, Samsung LM301B wired to a HLG-320H-C2100B driver.

The lights are to bright for my plants and I want to add a dimmer/potentiometer to it. I know the B series driver has the 2 wires coming off it for one. I had this dimmer at home but not sure if it would work, or fry me and the lights. Any help would be good. Playing with electricity isn’t something I enjoy

I don't think a trailing edge dimmer will work with that driver.
Quote " There is only one type of Mean Well LED driver that can be used in conjunction with a trailing, or leading-edge TRIAC wall dimmer; the PCD series constant current LED drivers. These have the required AC phase cut dimming, which enables them to work with this type of dimmer."
I believe you need a Potentiometer. Here is a good clip on how to wire it in.But I am definitely no expert.

  4. I purchased a 5 pack of 100k potentiometers from amazon for $5. Here’s a few pictures how to wire it up -

  5. I ended up seeing if the original dimmer I brought would work until my b series one arrived. Tried dimmer with wires joined both ways. Dimmer didn’t actually dim when turning the knob. But it actually dimmed the lights from 75k to 38k. Now since I’m not a electrician is that ok that it worked? Could I leave it until my other dimmer arrives? Did I just cheat death twice and should buy a lotto ticket? Lol

  6. Could also keep it simple and get a driver with A instead of B at the end. You just use a Phillips screwdriver to adjust dimming levels.

  7. I already have the driver setup with lights on now in my tent. I had a dimmer for ages cause my mate said it was ok. Then after making this thread I was put onto the right dimmer to use. Which I brought last week just waiting on it to arrive. Just wasn’t sure if the other dimmer that did work just not how it was ment to was safe to use or am I playing with dead

  8. Yea eventually I will switch out my h480 A driver for a B in the future. Keeping it simple now. Already spent $1,500 on my indoor grow. Just waiting for lights to come in tomorrow and start up.

  9. When I first decided on making the leap to QBs I was getting 4x 132qbs and a dimmer and was told to get a HLG-320h-c2100b driver so I didn’t. But sent to Australia it was like $200. So I decided to go 3x 288s but I found out the driver just isn’t quite big enough for them when flowering. They flowered good last grow. Now using them to veg + seedlings they are way to hot. So now I need them dimmed. The B series is easy it comes with 2 wires coming off it. Now just need my new dinner to help out my plants before they are dust.

$1500 what did you buy? What setup will you be runnings?

I brought a tent, led/t5 fan and pots in a setup cost me $400. I brought a hydrostar 60 aswell that was $300. I’ve never used the hydrostar. The led panels were shit. The t5 weren’t bright enough so I brought 4 more. Then brought 2x 600w meizhi LEDs. They all got packed away for QBs. I’ve brought so many oscillating fans, 4”-6” intake fans, 4”-6” exhaust fans, filters. Now made a automated watering setup and drain to waste. It’s just money money money cause I keep changing my mind.
Make sure you buy what you need the 1st time and stick to it!

  10. Got my dimmer in the mail today. Wired it all up. It dims the lights to completely off. Over the weekend I lifted my light frame as high as I could to give the plants a break from the bright lights. Almost 40” off the plants. Now since I can dim my lights and give the plants around 15-20k lux. How high should I set my light frame now? and adjust with dimmer?
