  2. Ideally, you would have a lower pH in your water. High pH water won't screw you over right away, but in time I think it increases the pH of the soil, which would require adding sulfur.

Pure water is slightly acidic at 6.8.

  3. yea i would adjust the ph. i was more concerned about the TDS and hardness. seems like thats alot of calcium to me. what do you think. besides the ph, does the rest of it look good?

  4. Your water hardness comes to about 7 grains per gallon.....that's not bad as all

And the tds is fine....just add 2-3 drops of ph down per gallon and you will have very good water

  5. ok thanks thats great. i down have ph down but i do have lemon juice. can i use that? and how much per gallon?

  6. that is pretty much a myth...in order to lower the ph even a little bit you need alot of lemon juice.....and at that point the water is too bitter and can kill plants

I suggest just ordering one of these.....alot of gardening stores and hydroponic stores carry this too

Amazon.com: General Hydroponics GH1514 Ph Control Kit: Patio, Lawn & Garden

my ph is normally at 7.3 and i add 2 drops per gallong of the ph down and im at a perfect 6.8-6.9

  7. that PH is just fine if you have compost-based soil (10-30 percent compost)

  8. What hope2toke said!

What method of growing are you going to employ?

  9. Check your soil pH to get a more accurate reading of what the pH the plants will actually be taking up. Take some of the soil you are planning on using and mix a cup of half pH adjusted water and half soil. Stir it up and let it sit there for 10-15 mins and then take the pH of the mixture. Alot of times it will be lower than the pH of the water that you used, so if it still is within the acceptable ranges then you know what pH to adjust your water to. If it is too high or low then adjust your water acordingly and it should make it so that the pH of the soil solution is just right. If you change soils then you'd want to do it again and maybe even for different bags of the same brand of soil just in case they are slightly different.

  10. fox farms ocean forest soil in 5 gallon smart pot. is that ok to give my water as is without lowering the ph from 7.6?

  11. no matter what kind of soil you use.....7.6 is still a bit too high

  12. hope2toke said if my soil is 10-30% compost that ph is fine. is ocean forest 10-30% compost?

  13. compost you make yourself.....

grass clippings, plants that were cut down, leaves, cow manure, chicken poo, etc....

thats the only kinda compost i know of

  14. Read the fine print about ph

  15. so i guess the composted forerst humus in ffof doesnt count.

  16. No it doesn't. You would need to add about 25% of either worm castings or compost.

  17. No it doesn't count

  18. I would go for roots organic soil. FFOF has been giving me strange results for the past year and I made the switch and couldnt be happoer. As far as your water goes, add 1/4 tspn epsom salt to even out the cal/mag or you will start seeing deficiencies. Try not to over-water and good luck!
