Will this tent work for both veg and flower?

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by Hickman420, Nov 3, 2021.

  1. The other light I was looking at is the mars hydro ts3000, would either of these lights be enough?

  2. I would think two of those Mars Hydro's would be perfect for that tent.
A 3000 would work but be a little short of light.
You can use the tent for clone, veg and flowering and still use the same two TS3000's
Just adjust the intensity of the lights according to the stage you are in.

  3. Actually I've decided to go with this... what so you all think?

  4. Man it really depends on what kind of space you have to work with. I really like the Covert brand tents on the hydrobuilder website due to the height- 86''. That extra 6'' makes a world of difference.

This is my last big 4 plant grow in my 5x5 covert tent.

The day i flipped to flower

I run 1000w DE HPS in a sunsystem air cooled de hood.

If i was starting over from scratch I think i would run 4 315w CMH lights. Start seeds with 1, veg with 2, flower with 4 but run 2 sets of 2 for 8 hours each with a 4 hour overlap so they get a sunrise, midday, and sunset.

  5. You know the whole reason I wanted a 2 chamber tent was so I could do a perpetual grow. But seeing as this is my first real time inside (been doing it for 15 years on/off outside) and obviously my first time with dwc the thought of having to care for plants both in the veg and flower seems like it might be more work than needed. Joe blow what was your yeild with that? And what medium? im thinking if the yeilds enough id be more than happy with just a 5×5 tent. the wifey is worried about space and cost. that is why im looking at complete kits. we added it up for the 8×4 tent with all asscories I'd need the cost would be around 2100. so thats my budget

  6. And I have my mind set on a led light. Happy wife happy life as they say lol that's the one requirement. She's a worrier, and said with a hps she would just be worried all the time about fire and heat risk yada yada yada

  7. I don't know the light you mentioned but I have grown very good pot with just a 250W HPS. I Upgraded to a 400W that preforms better. Then a few years later I got a extremely high quality LED full spectrum light. With the 400W and the LED both I have grown much better weed. My new plan is to use a MH conversion bulb in the HPS light for Veg. Then when I start flowering I'll switch bulbs back. Because indoor growing limits height of plants, I never felt early flowering was good for quality. 30 years ago I began bending the stalks so the were horizontal. Allowing light to hit along the main stalk allowing bigger tops to grow. It also increased my yield a good deal.
Ideally a mother to clone is the bast way, the older a plant is the better in my experience. I once read in high times how the growers of Maui would drive trucks with huge flood light through their field at night. Bathing the plants with enough light to keep their Veg stage going until the sun began staying up long enough to continue the veg stage until the second fall then allow them to bud. I never had room but I may be able to now with a tent.

  8. Would that be screen of green that you're doing? That whole sunrise, midday, and sunset idea is next level. I've always had a soft spot for cmh but I don't think that's negotiable for me.

  9. It will work, one side for flowering and one side for cloning/veggin.
Man they are proud of that setup, that is high compared to buying pieces to make it.
I think you will be a bit short on lights, one will do ok in veg, but when it comes to flowering, you will need 2 of those lights at least.
I think you can buy pieces from Amazon and ebay to make that setup for about 2/3 the price, maybe cheaper

  10. I mean its just 4 plants with a trellis spreading them out/holding them up. All grow lights put off heat and have a fire risk. If you live in a warm place or somewhere with really high electric costs, then go for LED. For me i just do one grow in the winter so yeah the HPS puts off a lot of heat but when its its below freezing 4-5 months out of the year, that heat just helps heat the house and keep the grow area in the right temp range. Keep in mind you really want your grow area to be like 80-83 when running LED which for a lot of people means running an additional heater so whatever efficiency they save by running LED is negated by the extra heat they have to run. Electric heaters are as much of a fire risk as any grow light. I get over a gram per watt growing in organic soil. Done right you should be able to pull even more from DWC and faster. But as most will agree, the best terpenes come from soil grows. I would rather a half gram per watt of the best weed on earth than 3 grams per watt of hydro that just doesnt have the flavor/smell. Ive also been playing with a 2.5x5 tent with two 315 cmh lights. Im seeing differences but im not sure its worth buying 4 more lights to replace my HPS. Another winter of testing should give me a better idea.

  11. hmmmm ok so now I'm back to the drawing board, kind of. I have decided to go with an 8x4 tent. Simply because I am a larger guy and feel like I would really appreciate having the extra space to move around and feel like it would just make things easier. I could close it off or do whatever I decided to do. I will not be actually ordering anything until after christmas so I have plenty of time to decide. As of right now that's the only thing that I know. I really want to do hydro, as I'm used to growing in soil but maybe I should stick to something I know the first go around. Now the wife doesn't care about which light just as long as I get what I need. I'm looking at some other leds and they're so expensive I'm just leaning to a single 1000w hps for flowering. Like I've said I've always had a soft spot for cmh but I don't like the idea of having 2-3 or 4 lights when I could just have 1.

  12. @420JoeBlow I've read a couple of your other replies and the other people's post, right now the area where my tent would go is reading 62 degrees, and it's only the beg. of November so I would definitely probably have to add a heater. I am mainly worried about yield over quality the first couple of rounds. In that aspect I'm leaning more towards hps.

  13. HPS produces quality flower. Its well proven. As far as tent size goes, are you planning on going inside your tent? Most people never actually go in the tent..... It should be full of plants. That is where the 1000w HPS is a pretty damn good fit for a 5x5. Get a tent with 3 doors so you can access all sides when you need to. I started with a single end 1000w HPS in an air cooled hood. It was plenty of light running it boosted to 1150w but in the never ending search for bigger and better, i upgraded to the double ended HPS sun system air cooled hood. I got it used for 100$. another 100 for new bulb and 150 for new ballast. A quality led that puts out the same amount of light is going to run you a grand easily. If you wanted to go a little smaller, you could do a 4x4 tent with one of the dual 315 lights that is one fixture with two bulbs.

    Lots of options out there.
