I have a 0.9x0.5x1.8m tent (roughly 3' x 1.5' x 6') and I am having a hard time choosing between a 400 watt HPS/MH grow or Mars Hydro Reflector 96 (actual wattage 203 watts) for my first grow. I plan on having 2 or non autoflowering plants growing in soil. I'd be spending extra going with the Mars Hydro Reflector 96, but would it be worth it compared to 250 or 400 watt hps/mh?
400W > 200W doesn't matter if it's HID or LED unless you are rocking the Cxb cobs. But in mind you have to worry about heat in that space as well, so I personally would be leaning towards the Mars but you're giving up a bit of light to keep temps down. I swapped my 400HPS out for 180W of UFOs and 200W of badass CXB's and I'd say the UFOs are on par with the Mars. I get good yields, and temps are way better, but it lacks everything that my custom diy panel does not. That 200W panel I built easily outperforms my 400W HPS, pulls half the amount of electricity, and generates about 1/3 the heat my HPS bulb and ballast created. Now that thing just takes up space in storage lmao Are you handy at diy? You could probably build a small panel out of some 3070's that will totally destroy that Mars light in performance and be around the same cost. I went ahead and got the LED light mostly because of potential temp issues where I live. I also got them because someone has a video where they modded the mars light, might try that if I'm not too satisfied with the light.
Yes, do the growmaus mod and you'll not regret it lol. Seriously, those cxb cobs are kick ass. You'll like that Mars in the meantime they do a good job as an entry level LED. I say you went with the right choice based on temps, those ballasts and HPS bulbs get friggen hot lol Keep us updated on tour progress!
