hey im about to start my first grow soon i just went to home depot and picked up 2 daylight 100 watt equivalence (27w i think not sure) and 1 100 watt equivalence soft light bulb for my vegging room. I am planning on vegging 2 mothers year round. If i start out 2 seeds in pots indoors and use these 3 CFLs, will the light be enough for my veg room for 2 plants? Once the plants are much bigger i will add 2 more 27w daylight for the sides For a total of 5 lights when the plant gets much bigger. After the mothers are nice and big, i will clone them and put them in a flowering room that has 1 85w CFL daylight and 1 85w CFL soft white. But they will be vegging until they are bigger but are still in the so called "flowering room" Once they are bigger i will add 3 more 100w equivelent bulbs on the sides of the plants (1 daylight and 2 soft white for continued veg and a boost in flowering). I want to grow 2-3 plants in my flowering room from clones using hydroponics. (I will have to vegg first in flowering room as well though) Will these lights be enough for 2 plants in vegging room as mothers in pots and 2-3 plants taken from clones in the flowering room to be vegged first and then flowered with hydroponics? Overview: Veg room for 2 mothers 2 Daylight 27w each 1 Soft White 27w (each 100w equivelent) 2 more 27w Daylight for the sides once the plants get bigger. Flowering Room for the Clones 1 85w (not sure the equivlent wattage) Daylight 1 85w Softwhite (both of these are giving off 6800 lumens) 2 27w daylight for the vegging period of clones (will take out once i get into flowering stage) 2 27w Softwhite once the plants are nice and big and go into flowering and to put on the sides of plants. (replaces the above daylights at this point) Will these lights be sufficient and it wont alarm any cops right? I will start to turn off my basement AC, my TVs, xboxs, fans, and start being much more energy conservent when i start growing. So hopefully no red flags go up and will the lights be enough? And remember when i am vegging on the hydroponics setup in my flowering room, i will probably not use the extra soft light bulbs i will have. Instead maybe another daylight for a total of 2 daylight 27watters on the sides, the 1 85w daylight and 1 85w softlight just during the vegging period on hydro. i will switch the 2 daylight side lights with softwhites once they are in flowering stage. what do u guys recomend? also all this will be in an attic and was wondering how much heat will be produced. i will have a pc fan connected to dryer hose that goes to this ventalation to the outside. then 2 other desk fans blowing on the plants directly. will this create so much heat the if a helicopter does a drive by with infared would it be noticable? if they are feminized seeds..lol....and you need 100 actual wats im pretty sure and 50-100 for every plant after that...
k so like 150w per room? i think i got the flowering room down but may add some more bulbs to the vegging room. but i was told that the vegging stages dont really need a whole lot of light and that they just need to be on for 18 hrs a day. is it still 150w for 2 plants even in the veg room? also yea there feminized PPP. how do you like those? and is PPP good for dro setup? i also got some early misty. might try to get 1 fem misty and 1 fem PPP.
First thing you gotta do is forget about equivalent watts, they are only there to confuse you. The only wattage you want to know is the actual wattage. As for your vegging lights, those will work just fine to start out. Once they get bigger and you notice that the lights don't reach all areas of the plants, that's when you get more bulbs. How many clones are you going to do at a time? You can take multiple clones off the same mother. If you're only doing two at a time you only really need 1 mother plant, unless you want two separate strains.
yea i kinda wanted 2 strains. so pretty much, 1 PPP and 1 early misty as mothers, then i will clone 1 of each. possibly 2 PPP and 1 early misty. will all these lights make a lot of heat? im worried about cops using infared to see the hot spots in the house.
They will produce heat, but I can't tell you if it'll be detectable or not. I don't know too much about that, but I bet the grow room design/setup forum has some good info on insulating your operation. They usually only look for that though if they already suspect you, so remember rule number one (tell absolutely no one what you are doing) and you should be safe.
yea thats true, but i mean i bet there only going to check (if they do even check) during night times because it will be easiest to determine where heat is coming from. but during the night the bulbs will the off, im going to try to mimic the sun outside as close as possible so no light will be shown during the night. but one mistake that i DID do is that i ordered some seeds with a credit card . if they got to my house with no problem from customs or anything then i should be ok right? if they did have any suspicions they would have confiscated the seeds, so hopefully right now they dont have a clue.. not like there going to check my records AFTER the seeds have already been delivered. everything else i baught at store with cash. i should be alright right? thanks for your help though
Yeah I wouldn't worry about the credit card, lots of people use em. The feds have much bigger fish to fry than our cute little hobby grows. Oh and for reference, I believe a xbox 360 uses about 200w. Quite a bit of savings right there.
dude thats awsome. my xbox 360 has been running for like 24/7 for the past month. i never turn it off. i always fall asleep to a movie streaming from pc on the 360. also my pc is on 24/7 and has a 1000w PSU (i got 2 8800 gfx cards) and running vista ultimate lol. so if i start to turn these 2 things off every night when i dont use em i should be all set. also im gonna start turning off the basement AC. my rooms in the basement and parents and no one comes down here really. it takes up soo mcuh watts for just me to be running AC to my basement (its a sepereate system) so ill start turning that off too or not make it run for so cold. cant wait to start growing w00t thanks for ur help! ill make a grow journal with pix and stuff with my setup.
aslong as the temp in that room isnt masively higher than the other rooms in your house then your safe, for veg get 50watts minimum per plant, but themore lumens = better the growth
I'd run 100 actual watts / plant. Flowering under cfl is supposed to take almost doubble that. You can flower at 100w, but if you go more, you'll have buds to the ground.
well actually its the attic... and it IS massively hotter than the rest of my house even without lights in there... thats where the AC thing is and when i go up there im really sweaty building the grow room. must be like 90 while the rest of my house is 73. i mean if its the attic then theyd probly know right? they wouldnt check would they? its been hot like that since weve been living here (11 years) and cops never said anything... im sure all the houses in my neighborhood are like this as well.. hot and stuffy up there
