Will A Cutting Root With No Rooting Hormone ?

    A friend is wanting to take a cutting from his main plant, but he has no rooting hormone and is wanting to put it straight into soil ... will this method work or does it need to be dipped in rooting hormone first?

    You need hormone or I hear honey works as a cheap alternative also.

    It can be done. Only if you had optimum conditions to keep it healthy while it roots... It will take way longer to do so...

    You don't need rooting hormone. I don't use it, but it can speed things up so great if you struggle to keep the conditions optimal. 
     
    If you can get hold of some fresh willow branches, cut some up in to small pieces and soak in some water for a day or two, then use this water to water  the cuttings. Willow contains a lot of rooting hormone.
     
    Or you could knock one of these up. I get clones rooted in a week and you really can't cock anything up
