i found some old threads on this and it could be indoor or out but I was wondering if anybody is currently doing this? I set one up on a tomato and it seems to be doing better than one beside it in the garden.
Lots of people do this. I grow with sub irrigated planters made from fabric containers that sit on top of a resivior and wick water from beneath.
Yes, a fabric bag sitting in two inches of fresh oxygenated solution will wick nicely. I have done many experiments with bottom feeding. I grow in pure perlite which has almost zero capillary action. However, once the perlite bag is filled with roots, the roots and the bag combined suck, ha ha. The wicks are better on paper than they are in real life. I have used the perlite/bag method in both 5 gallons and 1 gallon bags. Both work great. Seedlings must be foliar sprayed until roots establish. The magic I believe is in the bag. Any medium will work. Oxygen is the precious commodity.
