In Colorado, California etc., there is no process in place to require identification and regulation of genetically engineered cannabis. At this point in time you really have no clue, other than the word of the seller, if your cannabis is GMO or not. All other commercial crops are regulated for GMO varieties, so why was this over looked when it came to writing cannabis legislation? This isn't necessarily about whether GMO's are good or bad for folks and other critters, this is about corporations and the question asked above.
look up - Cannabsi Genome Project and Phylos bio-sciences . we have not even mapped the cannabis Genome and any company other than NIDA is not allowed to even research cannabis save for smoke harm research. who does that leave to be genetically modifying cannabis ? underground black market GMO ??
We aren't to the question of "who" yet, we are still back on this question: All other commercial crops are regulated for GMO varieties, so why was this over looked when it came to writing cannabis legislation? After answering the above first question, then we can move on to the who, in fact answering the first question just might get you the answer to the second one. Also in regards to the issue of mapping, here's just one article that you should know of: Canadian Researchers Complete Mapping Cannabis Genome
well everyone knows that the plant has been so restricted that there is no labs available to GMO the plant legally or to even go there... NIDA has been the only research institute with free reign over the cannabis plant the and their main focus is to find as much smoke harm as possible.. that requires a plant and fire, nothing else ... GMO is so advanced that doing GMO on prohibited plants is just not so
Folks in Colorado have already been at issue with the fed over trying to get their engineered cannabis protected under patent law. Also in regards to the issue of mapping, here's just one article that you should know of: Canadian Researchers Complete Mapping Cannabis Genome
once bio synthetic cannabinoids made from yeast are a thing this will all be moot as all corps will just make their own synth versions in a lab, no plants anywhere. thanks for that article, I had not read that one yet...
That's why the direction of "legalization" has been slightly misdirected in my opinion and why we so urgently need to restore and protect a human beings self evident right to grow and use natural plants so that we don't get screwed again.
