So I'm designing a new grow room, and was originally going to go with a lot of plants under a scrog set up. In order to stay prop 215 compliant, I'm now looking at 6 plants in a small room with a 400whps light (I know 100w is ideal per plant. I think the WW should be ok though). So now I'm looking at LST. And I just don't see how it works. My current plant I supercropped and fimmed, easily saw the difference. Reading up on it, it made sense. For some reason watching my plants grow, I just don't get how it'd work and it'd help. Also, can you/do you want to still supercrop/top, etc...? Or do you want to just pick one. Just trying to maximize yield while minimizing space for this particular room. Thanks
LSTing seems to train the plant low if done properly IMO there for good for my CFL set ups. Now from what I have seen training is done to maximize yield usually in small areas, if your using a 400w light on 6 plants a combo of LST/ ScroG can probably help you keep them in primary light area. From what I am to understand you should have a good coverage over 16 sq ft therefore an LST/ScroG combo can help you keep them in that area. Those are my opinions as to why LST. Check out the newest plant in my journal for an LST idea. I plan to do more extensive research with LST and other methods once I get more seeds but till then I hope I helped you out.
I couldn't really grasp the concept at first but here it is and i've now seen it with my own eyes. You bend one of the taller shoots down. Well while its repairing itself, a lower shoot is now getting more light because that taller one is out of the way a bit. I bent a few that were already hitting my scrog before most of the others. A few days later they were facing up and reached farther out while a few lower ones got a chance to reach the scrog. When they push against it too much i'll bend those and get some more to grow up to it!
So, if I was proposing a 6 bubble bucket room with a 400w HPS, just big enough for the buckets themselves plus another sq foot around (5X5 or 6x6 panda film for reflection) would I be better off LST'ing (plus supercropping as I've seen you can do) or supercropping + topping? White widow is the strain. I can see the advantage with satiiva syrains for sure
IMHO, SCROG and LST take more time to tend, but the advantages of having an even canopy for maximum light exposure are always going to increase quality and yield--especially under a 400 watt light.
vertical scrog or even box of green if youre hating plant limits. or grow trees, and harvest them top down in levels sort of
watch out for those plants that love LST. One that i am currently growing is going out of control trying to steal light from my other girls
Thanks guys. Think I'm going to try it out. Planning on basically building budslingers recirculating bubble buckets with 6 white widows lst'd. For now in a closet, eventually a small room just big enough for them. Probably going 400whps since I plan on having 2 600w hps I'm another.
If I understand correctly... In addition to more light, LST gives you even more bud spots because each new branch that grows off your bent-down main stem becomes a main cola, growing upwards toward the light. ...Right?
truly it is the perfect place for a closet grow. power ,lights ,plugs, gfi breaker, water, drainage, fan, window to bring in ozone and co2. really what could be better A LAND-LOARD PROVIDED GROW SPACE do you suppose master baths should come standard with 1000 watt hps lighting. better yet this is 2011 builders should be required to install movable leds. -D-
As confirmed by the poster below you, this is why I'm excited about it. I want to find a way to optimize a 6 plant lst grow. I'm thinking individual bubble Buckets are best. I'm wondering when I should/if supercrop. And when I should flip the lights. Google should help with that.
It's vital that you train the plants in some way by either topping, LST, SCROG, or a combination of all of them. You have to get the maximum number of bud sites into the prime high lumen area nearest to the light source. If you grow normally with no training you will have only the main cola in that prime area, the rest of the plant will generally be below it and produce much less. That's why SOG grows yield so well. It's a bunch of small plants, but there is a high number of bud sites in the optimal area close to the bulb. SCROG, LST, SOG, and topping all operate under the same principle. Copy and paste from an answer I gave in a similar thread when a guy asked how it's possible to pull a pound from a 600.
Modular scrog, I'll look into it. Just want to be efficient as I can with the space. Thought LST would be best as they may be ready for harvest at different times.
Google gave me a post here and another useful one. So it's a screen for each plant. Interesting. Seems space consuming though. Maybe if I get my room with 2 600's I'll use it. But might be just too big. I think I'd end up having to invade other screens terortories.
