Here is my belief. I hate to compare it to alcohol and cigarettes since MJ is in a league of her own, but here goes. Nearly anyone can grow mary jane, if it were legal it would be popping up in everyones' back yards and they would get rid of there dogs for their new pet. Its not really feasible to grow tobacco. I don't know the process on it, but I've never seen a tobacco seed and I've heard it takes years to cure and you have to cut it with other ingredients to get a good smoke/chew. Alcohol. I know you can go spend some pretty big buck and have your own little micro brewery, but chances are it won't taste as good and will end up costing you more plus time and space spent. Marijuana can be easy to grow and you can grow it how you like it for as cheap as you wish (in season). If it were legal, the feds would lose out on getting taxes for homegrown and since everyone who has a piece of land can grow it, the market (while there) won't be too huge since you'll be able to be your own man. Another reason I see when people claim it will make the gov't millions in taxes, well, the govt is already making that by arresting us and so is the bail bondsmen. So why EVER make it legal, when it funds the police and gives them something to do. I mean, besides speeding tickets, drugs are what the police were born for. The only way I see it, is if the entire weed smoking population has a major revolt like the drinkers did during prohibition and how the gays got there way in the 70s. You know the squeaky wheel gets the oil, and the only way for the United States federal governemnt to get off our back is for everyone who is sick and tired of this sh!t to blow their brains out whenever they fvck with us. Of course it won't happen, cuz we're too laid back and peaceful, well, me too, Im just saying what it takes to get a response and if every weed smoker had a shotgun waiting for good ole LEO when he sticks his nose in the wrong peoples' business, that the lawmakers would feel it is no longer worth all these policeman's lives over a (literally) harmless little plant.
I read somewhere that the guy who spearheaded the prohibition of cannabis had quite a bit of money in the lumber industry, and hemp had recently emerged as a better source for paper (and a million other things), so....
the government does not make money by arresting people how could that possibly be a source of income? private prisons make money from having inmates. it is quite simple to brew your own beer, but it isn't widespread. sure more people would grow weed than brew their own beer, but plenty of people would opt to just buy it. see California right now. medical patients are allowed to go to dispensaries and buy weed or they can grow it in one of the best climates in the country for growing. they have a ton of dispensaries who are all obviously making money.
Yeah King, keep your mind on quality and time. Many people simply do not have the time to be caring for their plants so much in order to grow some dank ass shit. You will see quality in the corporations; competition makes everything better. Also, if it is found to be a popular product (which it should be), corporations would have far better access to grow diverse plants as well, so you can get more strains to choose from. Also, look at Mark Emery - he sells seeds. If you want to tax, put it on seeds if it really comes down to it. You will get money from that. Also, put yourself into a lawmaker's shoes. Let's say I legalize weed. Okay, now everyone can consume it freely. Well you know what? Ill say that its illegal to grow it. Bam, hello tax revenue. Keep an open mind, you need to think outside of the box. Also, watch The Union, and you will get a better grip on why it is still illegal.
Short version because of greedy assholes lying to further their separate interests. Heast didn't want to lose a large chunk of his fortune, Anslinger wanted to become a prominent political figure, and Dupont patented nylon which hemp would have made all but useless. Why is Marijuana Illegal?
mr.bill you are correct. i was just about to say watch the union. the best built documentary on this topic [ame=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9077214414651731007]The Union[/ame]
"Also, put yourself into a lawmaker's shoes. Let's say I legalize weed. Okay, now everyone can consume it freely. Well you know what? Ill say that its illegal to grow it. Bam, hello tax revenue." Good point Mr. Bill, didn't think of it that way.... and thanks poke a toke for posting the union, its come up a few times in my readings today and you saved me some trouble of hunting it down. I do know why it is illegal, but that was many years ago, Im just saying why it is illegal today. If something works, why change. I think that is the conservative pov. And yes, they make plenty of money when we have to make bail and pay court fees and fines, but I see what you say of those that are imprisoned because of it. I mean, we already have the cops on duty anyways, so its not costing anything extra for them to bust some hippies, then rape then when court day comes. thanks fellas oh, and one more thing.....why is it illegal in every other country in the world besides Holland? Anslinger didn't have any pull overseas did he
I know in South Africa they did it for the same racist reasons as us because they believed it would make the blacks overthrow the apartheid system.
its not as easy to grow as you think. people would pay for a pack of dro instead of wasting hours of hard work on hydroponics its easy to grow shitty weed tho
Pot is illegal not because its bad but because William Randolf ran a smeer campaign against marijuana in the 30s to protect his injterest in the timber industry because hemph was going to replace wood as an inexpensive raw material for the manufacturing of paper
