In America? Id think if voting was important theyd give everybody a day off to go out and exercise their rights. I mean a lot of people still wouldn't, but some just dont have all day on a Tuesday in November to go vote.
You must have some kind of advance voting or other accommodations like having someone cast a ballot on your behalf.
Isn't it a legal requirement for your employer to allot you time to go vote on election day? It is here, anyway.
I think a better questions is "why doesn't every state have vote by mail like Oregon"? It's stupid easy to vote in Oregon and you can do so wherever and whenever it's convenient for you. We get a ballot and voter's informational book in the mail two or three weeks before the election. You can fill it out, put it back in your mailbox, drop it off at any mail box, or drop it off at any ballot drop off location all drive through style. It's completely ridiculous that people still wait in line on a certain day at a certain time and have to take that much time out of their lives to do it. It's obsolete and embarrassing. No reason to have paid holiday, just update your f'n voting system. When I first started voting in Oregon it was the whole wait in line at the church, follow the government instructions for punching out card in the booth, etc.
In most states you get 2 hours paid to leave work and vote... here it appears to be beneficial to one of the parties that a lot of folks just don't make it to the polls... they keep moving polling stations farther away from public transportation and all kinds of shenanigans... Can you believe tRump said that some people vote then go to the car change clothes and put on some disguise then turn around and vote again? This is what we end up with when one side suppresses the votes guys as stupid as him getting elected... but i digress...
Why not make April 15th election day? You can get the day off to pay your taxes and vote for/against the crooks that just picked your pocket.
Some states a lot don’t. Also the GOP is actively pushing to get rid of early voting, absentee voting, same day registration, motor voter laws (automatic registration), and a million other things that make voting easier. Not to mention three hour lines in urban places but zero second waits in suburban polling locations.
I had a good friend who was a social worker at a nursing home and she helped the residents vote. Those who couldn't wipe their own asses were her best customers. I liked the woman even though she was a flaming progressive. There's a social worker in every nursing home in America helping those who are too weak and helpless vote but maybe some of them are conservative social workers. A conservative social worker, wouldn't that be a sight. I wonder how many frail elderly people there are in Florida.
It wouldn't make a difference anyways, politicians don't give a fuck about you. Voting is participating in a corrupt system just as much as not voting. Governments are based on corruption.
Just based on simple stats they’re probably overwhelmingly voting republican. The older demographics are much more reliably republican voters.
Perhaps they were mostly Republicans when they still were functional but 95% of social workers vote Democrat and it's the social workers who mark their ballots for them. I don't have a suggestion for a better system though and in retrospect I shouldn't have even brought it up.
Oh yes the dying baby boomers..... Dont look now but generation X is even more conservative than them at this point in their lives. I believe kids naturally rebel from their parents, and there is a generation of really liberal nanny state millennials who are raising the next super conservative lot. Its very important to teach this generation the inherent evils of government and hope they limit its powers. Hopefully this generation X will make it so people have to pay money to vote, walk up hill, through a pit of alligators on fire.... not get a holliday lol.
Pay money to vote?? You're mental. No one should pay money for a right to express their choice of faulty politician. Why is it that you want to keep others from voting? To me you sound more anti free speech and anti freedom.
