I was a skeptic at first. Did some homework on differing concentrates. Came across proof, from actual labs n i believe a university. Has it charted of different temps and times thc was most concentrated. Then lowered after too long. When u cook herb u increase its potency. This is from the decarboxylating. It not just the method of absorption leading to a greater high for most. Me i get indigestion n burp up a strong weed taste. That a different subject. Besides from actual graphs charting it. With just simple observation u can notice the chemical changes occurring. The herb by itself when this process is done. Takes on a orange gold hue like most concentrates. So by simple observation you can make the hypothesis thc levels increase. Luckily there scientific fact, through chemical analysis at laboratories. So take a few small bowls of uniform nugs. Throw em in oven for a hour. Dnt go over. Cause after decarboxylating thc content diminishes. N u can cook herb out of any potency. Then try wake n bake with the toasted herb. Wait next day try with non toasted. The toasted decarb herb gets u higher n last longer. Least that been my experience. N there is research to back up the claim. Plz tell if u gave it a try n u notice the difference Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I always decarb bud for edibles, but never for smoking. Just setting fire to the herb (classic smoking style) should activate the THC no? I wonder if decarbing the bud before smoking messes with the terpene profile of the bud (the flavor), because good tasting bud is the reason I buy top shelf and not mids. Any feedback on that end?
Yes it does. Only draw back. U lose most the herb taste. More of a toasty o2 oil vape flavor. Yeah i still keep some normal. To enjoy the flavor, cause i love how it taste. But the duration quality of high, makes me keep most my herb this way Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Speaking of edibles. U ever try to decarb the bud, then crumble to powder. Use in a glaze cream or jelly. I think a lot of home edibles get overcooked or cooked at too high a temp. If u have ur cooking method on lock down making seems like a good cheap way go i crease potency. I thi k i may try this myself. Ooo or a canna butter cream topping. Decarboxylation is mainly used for cooking and baking. The active ingredient in thc becomes psychoactive only once it decarboxylases. Most of the process occurs during drying and curing. The rest takes place upon combustion when smoked. As far as taste/smell goes, I am not sure what happens as I have never done that before smoking as I didn't see the point! Edibles smell like weed, but certainly not like the dankness you may have used. You cannot increase the percentage of thc by decarbing it. You can certainly make more thc psychoactive, but the percentage of delta 9 thc remains the same ratio to the other cannabinoids(whether it's psychoactive or not). That is not the same thing. So, in short, no. It would not do anything to enhance qualities before smoking! As for making extracts, I don't know. Peace!
I believe the correct terminology is that thru decarboxylation psychoactivity of thc(potency) is maximized. That may be the part causing controversy. Maybe not, just a thought! Peace
It's doubted cause the act of smoking or vaping automatically decarbs your bud, activating the THC. It's needed for cooking though cause if you don't decarb prior to baking, it'll more than likely not decarb when submerged in your cooking ingredients.
