why is bong a "bad word" to use in a headshop?

because you don't smoke tobacco out of a bong you smoke it out of a waterpipe

 

Yeah haha you shouldn't bring up anything weed related in a smoke shop they get pretty anal unless the dude open ups first hahha


I once asked a guy at a smoke shop if he had hash was he gave me the dirtiest look ever I was faded to so make that 10X worse

 

i was in a smokeshop today and when i brought up getting high my buddy jokingly corrected me and said, "off tobacco"

then the salesguy laughed and pointed to a bumper sticker that said "i <3 my tobacco water pipe"

it was a really funny moment.

but they just can't promote doing illegal things and so if they are selling a "bong" then they are promoting the use of illicit substances. its basically some dumbass out of the loop politicians hoping we won't smoke weed if they call it something else

 

Well simply because it is illegal I think it's more of the authorities make smoke shops like that.

 

cuz a bong is paraphernalia and a waterpipe isnt. of course they know what there selling is gonna be used for but they dont wanna get booked on a paraphernalia charge

It's all about connotation.

Bong is something druggies use to smoke illicit narcotics. You occasionally hear stories of people ripping bongs loaded with tobacco, but it's pretty uncommon.

Water-pipe? Why, a hookah is a water-pipe, and people mostly use that to smoke sweet tobacco (you can smoke ganj with a hookah but it's nowhere near as common). So water-pipe is a neutral term.

Paraphernalia laws are ridiculous.

 

It's illegal to sell weed related paraphernalia, such as bongs in any retail establishment, as it is illegal to own such items. It IS legal to sell tobacco related products.

Because of this, everyone has to pretend to be purchasing for tobacco, and undercover cops try to get shop workers to say bong or talk about MJ. They can't allow that to be going on or they'd lose there business license.

 

The attitude is definitely different here in Canada. I was at -my- favourite headshop the other day asking for a replacement bowl for my "Waterpipe" and the cashier there said "You mean for a bong, right?"

lol man when i turned 18 i went to one to buy my first pipe and when inside i said to my friend "Dude check out these bongs." The lady freaked out and was like "they are called waterpipes." I laughed cuz i thought she was joking but then she was like "If you say that again we will kick you out" It was so hard not to laugh. lol

I don't see what the difference is. Why does it have to be called a water pipe to be used with tabacco? U could smoke tabacco out of a bong.

 

Move to Canada and you can say bong all you want in headshops. Most that i frequent the employee's are always taking bong hits and smoking joints behind the counters.

No one cares whether you call it a bong or waterpipe here. It's all good.

 

If you want the shop to stay in business, cut them some slack. They are just trying to make a dollar like the rest of us, so if a few buzz-words can get them harrased by the 5-0, then they aren't gonna want you running around yelling them.
