Why haven't people in history sought after marijuana?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Business and Industry' started by snyder1171, Mar 10, 2019.

  1. The earliest uses of marijuana recreationally that I can think of was by the scythians in aincient antiquity, so it appears that the eastern hemisphere has know about cannabis for thousands of years.

My question is that you had European conquistadores such as Hernán Cortez and pizzaro that raped the new world of it's gold and spices and resources, why not with cannabis?

  3. It comes down to perceived value. The Chinese consumed cannabis in hashish and flower forms for thousands of years and it never started mass production of anything, even today. Nevermind the lack of botanical knowledge people had about Cannabis, it would evolve to play different roles for different societies. You figure some tribes used it to roll up and make hash, some figured out they could eat the oil of the plant for benefit, still others found its usefulness as a textile-good producer. These things probably all came about with a dose of ingenuity, blessing, serendipity, and necessity.

I imagine that regardless of the physical movements of the plants' seeds, the plant wasnt seen as valuable, and not for nothing, but for a number of reasons. Figure that earlier on, people had found value in things like Coffee, Tea, and Tobacco. Each one of those drastically shifted the way humans create AND perceive value. Once these came into fruition for people all across the world, the value of coffee, tea, and tobacco became King. However, you have to remember this, too: tea, coffee, and tobacco were natural substances which, until human cultivation came along, had no real, tangible benefit to the people, why? Because they didnt know. It then took a longtime, all the way to the 1600's and 1700's to find usefulness for tobacco on a mass scale. Coffee as well at that time, and century or so later gained its value after the realization of it by people.

So answering your question, for me, is about necessity, knowledge, and belief. We've had an undergirding of use, support, and love for Marijuana throughout the Millennia, so we were 'pursuing' it, as it were, but also we weren't, because we didn't know. Moreover on that point I think it fair to state that these things develop in the human psyche in very specific circumstances and scenarios, and as such may take some time to fully come to be perceived properly.

    Ramble is complete.

  4. I wonder if the ancient scythians popped their seeds and froze them for a later date.

  5. How would they have frozen them on a continual basis? I dont recall reading anything about the Scythian capacity to make ice, let alone have it transported. If ur joking just ignore my ass. Or just ignore me anyways lolol

Refrigeration in the 19th century was what truly revolutionized the railroad, food, transportation, and storage industries. I forget the exact numbers, but having refrigerated stock cars meant perishable goods could go like 10x farther than previous. Just sayin lolol.

  6. Oh. Don't mind me. It's just a hidden reference to an old correspondence

  7. Fasho lol

  8. You know they found a mummy from 3.000 with cannabis plants placed next to the body. I'm pretty sure people have used it for at least that long.

  9. I was actually hoping that people would go to war and colonize over cannabis. That would be more worth while than oil.
