Why does burning cannabis "smell"

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by CanadaBoy, Jul 10, 2011.

  1. From an evolutionary standpoint... why would the combustion of cannabis product a skunky/pungent smell? Wouldn't it make more sense for the plant to product a more pleasant/less distinguishable odor when burning? :confused_2:

(This thought came to my mind when I thought it would be a good idea to get high in the bathroom. :ey: Window open, shower running on hot, and me blowing the smoke from a J into the exhaust fan... low and behold a few minutes later my brother told me to close the window in the bathroom because "a snunk farted" :hide:)

  2. its not really an evolutionary thing its a chemical thing. when you burn anything the solid particles shift to gas particles, which means free floating particles in the air that your nose can pick up.

the smell of an actual plant itself is more an evolutionary thing. id guess its too attract animals to eat the plant so that the seeds can be ingested, released, fertilized and then grown.

but yea, i evolution has nothing to do with the smell of marijuana being burned. its seems illogical that anything would evolve due to its combustion, thats just not something that happens in nature

  3. The smell of the plant is actually intended to discourage animals from eating it.

  4. haha yea i had no idea i was just theorizing off the cuff
