im not sure why, but this always happens. remember this is my first grow... but like ok so the leaves come in and get their 5 fingers, then after like 4 days, the tips of them start to turn brown and slowly that browness creeps down the leaves and turns the whole leave brown and dead. i dont get it. i water based on how dry the soil is. i stick my finger in a couple inches and if its dry, i water, if its moist still, i dont. any suggestions/ ideas?
Holy shit dude me too, I couldn't find an answer either. Hopefully someone can shed some light, you described the exact problem I have.
yea i dont get it. its so agrivating because i have no flippin clue whats causing it or how i can fix it. i grow outdoors under mother earth's sunlight btw.
I stick my finger in? That is so what he said. And how's the weather in SD? That could easily give you some clues. If it's really hot lately, then that might be it. This is what happened when you first experimented with growing but that was a shitload of time ago and it was really hot at that time.
I'm growing under CFL's but like I said it's the exact same problem... two of my leaves are literally half brown from tip to middle. It's frustrating.
yea i know. i just dont get it. and you cant fix something when you dont know why its happening. can someone with experience please help me and ska????
allright heres a pic. you can see an almost entirely brown leaf and the tip of a 5 fingered leaf just starting to brown.
uggh sorry dude i dont have a ph meter... this is my first ever grow and i was looking to just keep it basic. pop seeds in a pot and see what happens. is that the only thing i can do? you cant tell from lookin at it?
yes, see the PH of the soil controls the plants ability to pull nutes from it, if it has the wrong PH your plant cant take in enough nutes and this is known as nute lock-up. PH is the first step in ensuring your plant gets it's food, the second is fertilizer......seeing as how its a solid brown troughout the tip this suggests nute lock-up.
looks/sounds like nute burn to me. dont give it so much food yet. If you havent been feeding it anything, which type of soil is the plant in?
I would lean towards nute burn more than lockout but it could be either. Are you using a soil with time released ferts in it? They'll burn young plants.
nvm, I think this guys right^^ I didnt think you where feeding it though. EDIT: If your arent feeding it(which you shouldn't this early), what kind of soil you got?
well im not feeding them anything. it is just in some general potting soil. it didnt say anything about time relase ferts on the bag, but there was an npk ratio on it. idk...
Hmmm usually if there is an N-P-K on it it means there are ferts added. I'd give it a good flushing. When I used to grow in soil I always mixed my own so I'm not really up on commercial soil blends. A LOT of off the shelf potting soil contains fertilizer though.
It's a ph problem. It depends on what kind of soil your using. Cheaper soils from mg and the like have low ph to begin with. Go to a pet shop in your area and get some ph strips for aquariums, they are really cheap, like $5. It's the cheapest way to test your runoff fairly accurately. Most people with swimming pools and hot tubs have them lying around as well.
