Why are there homeless, starving people in America when they can just get on welfare and be able to afford a tiny little apartment and food for themselves. I mean that's what welfare is for right? I always see these threads on homeless people and how people feel sorry for them. I mean I understand if they have a mental problem then that would be pretty bad, but if they are lucid then why can't they get welfare? I mean do they just spend it on booze and drugs or whatever and live on the street because of their addiction? Seems like they could just divide it half and half. Half of it for food/shelter, other half for drugs/booze. Seems like a win-win for me. Am I missing something here?
I don't think its that easy to just get welfare bro. And welfare isn't enough to live on. Like its a fucked if you do fucked if you dont situation. If you are on welfare you don't get enough money to whipe your ass. But if you work you can't get welfare. So i think a lot of homeless people just say fuck it to live off the free money. I think its a combo of druggies/crazies/ and lazies. I made that thread yesterday.
You're missing a lot. Do you know how many homeless there are?We dont have enough money for all of them. We're struggling as it is.
To get on welfare you need a permanent address. You cant use a Po box either. Homeless people do not have permanent addresses, hence, they are homeless. And most homeless people aren't the best with paperwork. I cant say ive done, or looked at at welfare application, but i have done my taxes, and that shit can get complicated. I can only imagine getting free checks in the mail is a little harder than sending them checks in the mail.
I don't think thats true. Like maybe we don't have enough money to rent them all apartments or whatever. But i mean an old run down apartment building would be pretty cheap for the city to maintain. You put like 3 homeless people or more to an apartment just give them each a room. And you are good to go. Like when i get older thats what i am gonna do. Its one apartment building. And its not like they are gonna complain anything is better than living on the streets. And if you gave them that at least they would probably clean up and try to be a bit more productive.
I know homeless people on welfare. And i know people who get disability checks and foodstamps sent to a PO box. I'm not sure about the welfare thing but i know for a fact that someone i know personally gets checks sent to a PO box. She is homeless and she moves around a lot. Also if a homeless person really wanted to get welfare they could. I'm sure they all know someone with a permanent address.
It costs money to run a building. Heat, water, electricty, and upkeep. And what are they going to eat? Most citys have homless shelters, granted there not the nicest places to live but its a bed and a roof over your head.
Yes, a lot of them could probably get welfare one way or another, but it isnt easy getting it done for a fully functioning, competent, literate individual. Chances are if you are homeless, you are not all of, if any of those things... That makes it a LOT harder.
Yea i know it costs money to keep a place like that running. I am sure the government can find it. And if they cleaned up the streets of my city then they could put a lot of vendors/build some prime real estate. As it is homeless people take up a lot of space. And a homeless shelter isn't like having a home. Also they only accept certain people. And they fill up pretty quick. Not to mention there is strict rules. Would be better to give them just one apartment building. That would cut them problem at least in half. And the homeless shelters would be empty so more people could move into those.
there is definitely enough money to make institutions that are much better than the current "homeless shelters" in the US so we dont we? greed, for one. another is the homeless population is a huge asset to the prison industrial complex of this country. homeless people are routinely rounded up and shoved into prisons, sometimes undeservedly, just because they are an "eye sore." they make people and businesses uncomfortable. so, the local and state governments throw them into prison, make them perform some cheap labor and then release them, and the cycle repeats there is no rehabilitation. there is no aid. on the other end of the spectrum, look at stuff like the costs of medical care in this country. if the largest percentage of homeless people are the mentally ill, it is pretty much a no brainer that these people could not afford proper medical care and therefore lost everything. look at all the displaced from natural disasters like katrina. the government PROMISED to help those people and then didnt. and now there are millions of people homeless as a result its pretty disgusting, that a "free" country can spend billions and billions of dollars on prosecuting weed cultivators and smokers, but cant spend what would amount to mere dollars a day to help the homeless
If it was that easy for them then they wouldn't be homeless. A lot of them have psychological problems and are in denial. Some of them prefer to be on the streets. They all have a story and it can't be solved by something like going on welfare.
Yea that is true. Guess the real reason they don't build apartments is because they make money off the homeless. Fucked up how evil the government is sometimes. Money rules everything.
What they said. Can you imagine how many people would be doing that if welfare were THAT easy? "I don't want to ever have to work a day in my life... I know! I'll apply for welfare. Now I've got money for food and a roof over my head and my life will be care-free forever and ever." Yeah, not quite that easy.
Last time we tried something like that, we ended up with bloods and crips. Oh they became productive alright... There isnt a simple solution for this. And its not like they choose to be homeless. No one wants to be homeless
You really think housing projects alone started the bloods and the cips? And it really doesn't matter how productive they become. They will probably at least clean up if given the chance. And if not then let them live in there own filth. Its better to have them in a housing projects then to have them living on the streets. You figure you put a bunch of homeless people together its trouble right? On the streets its the same thing a bunch of homeless people together.
Lol no, I know thats not what caused them, but it was a breading ground for them. And you're thinking of homeless shelters
