Why did my decarb go wrong?

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by anotherjoe, Jun 15, 2019.

  1. So I got some bubba kush from GMC in denver. Last night decarbed it so that I could make firecrackers the same way I always do with other strains. Which was 30 minutes @ 230F than 10 minutes @ 350F ate it before bed and this morning was a disappointing since it dident really deliver the insomnia relief that BK is known for. Anyways I go to make another batch tonight after pulling some of the decarbed stuff out I realize its very dry and had zero smell. Is thirty minutes to long? It was ground, im not sure if that can make it overcook.

  2. If doing the same thing as always didn't deliver the usual effects, then the herb itself is the likely culprit.

Other possibilities include wild variability in edible sleep effects.
I've had the same exact edible from the same strain deliver 6+ hrs sleep one night, then 4 hours on a different night.
There seems to be a minimum amount of herb needed for good sleep, and getting below that minimum can produce worse sleep, even for a good, sleepy strain. The herb is probably weaker than expected.

That 2-stage decarb should've worked, assuming the second one is herb mixed with oil or nut butter.
Most people are helped by the addition of lecithin, so you might give that a shot.

You can also make firecrackers using a 1-stage decarb of 240 F for 40 min, add herb to nut butter and lecithin, then bake again @ 220 F for 20-40 min, which won't decarb noticeably more.

  3. if the decarbed flower is practically odorless does that indicate it was "overcooked"

  4. I still think it's bad herb.
Not smelling, and not having the same effects when using the same recipe are both indicators of bad herb.
It also might be due to the dispensary accidentally giving you a high cbd strain, because cbd kills much of the thc high.
I've had a few strains that just didn't work for me personally, but did ok for others.

  5. if you would've considered your decarb method "tried and true", then maybe just bad luck with strain as BK said.

the general recommended decarb time here (per PSam and BNW and etc.) is 240 Fahrenheit for 40 minutes. that is what I personally use as well. sometimes I mess with the numbers a bit for variations in my herb... but it is said that the 240/40 is standard enough to use with any strain.

as for the smell, it isn't really a deal breaker. some herb has wild differences in smell profile from the next. mine usually smells similar to vaped weed when it's done being decarbed, though not near as dark.

    good luck!!!

  6. If that's your usual decarb process and it usually works and if that was the first time you sampled that batch of weed then suspect the weed. If the same weed worked previously but didn't last night then there were other variables at play. For instance it matters what kind of food and how much of it you have in your stomach, if you had a fat heavy meal prior it would slow the digestion process down and your dose would trickle into your system over a longer time. Try it again since you already have the weed.

  7. You can substantially over decarb with no real ill effects. I've missed the timer more then once or twice and gone to 60 even 90 minutes and it didn't change the end result on the edible oil but make it a bit more sleeper.

Under decarb gets you a low effects and it wears off much faster then you expect.

  8. There is no rhyme or reason to when I get off on eddibles and when I don't. I've gotten completely blasted from some weed that wasn't very good. I've used shatter and top shelf and felt absolutely nothing.

  9. I'm working on a microwave decarb, but have more testing before I can release my results. It feels encouraging so far, just need to nail down power level and time sweet spot.

  10. I’ve found some of the greatest smelling weed to not be that great- and the buds look amazing

And also weed that doesn’t have a strong smell to knock me and other on there asses.

There was a big decarb discussion and it was tested that going for longer periods of time @240 didn’t really have much of an impact one way or another. There’s lots of knowledge and great info on here

  11. Try decarbing your cannibas for 90 minutes at 200 degrees. The longer cook should help with your next batch.
