Why 4:20

I always thought it was because people in high school would meet 20 minutes after school which happened to be 4:20.

This is what I've heard. But I've also heard that it is a code for cops on a weed bust. I'm sticking with the first one.

 

420, 4:20 or 4/20 (pronounced four-twenty) refers to consumption of cannabis and, by extension, a way to identify oneself with cannabis subculture. The date April 20 is sometimes referred to as "Weed Day" or "Pot Day".

The term was allegedly coined by a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, United States in 1971. The teens would meet after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana outside the school.

The group called itself the Waldos because its members hung out by a wall after school. Writer Ryan Grim, citing interviews with anonymous Waldos, claims that the group met by a statue of Louis Pasteur on the school grounds at 4:20 p.m. to search for an abandoned cannabis crop near Point Reyes that they had heard about. They never found the stash, Grim writes, but smoked plenty of marijuana while looking for it.

 

I believe those "cop codes" are regional.

 

Because there are 420 substances in marijuana plant itself. haha there are for real but that is not the reason. The reason is because of what the guy ahead of me said. And the people who made the 4/20 date didn't even know the plant has 420 substances in it it was just a magical coincidence. But a really cool one too.

It's all over Wikipedia. But yes that's pretty much the accepted origin. It's really just become a huge part of the sub-culture.

 

i like the part in super high me where he's about to smoke up for the first day of his challenge and his mate grinds up the weed n drops it at like 4:20 haha i laughed at that scence for a good 2 to 3 hours
