Well im 18 now but when i was 13 i was caught selling weed at school. I was given a "technical-felony" It was so long ago it is a vague memory. The crime was selling weed at school, i did some drug class and was off the hook, ive never been in ANY trouble since then, done very well in school, plan to go to a 4 year college. Will any of this come back too haunt me? Is it still on my records? or will it just be erased? I have no idea what to do. any help is much appreciated
Is this any help California Courts: Self-Help Center: More Topics: Criminal Law: Clean Up Your Criminal Record
First off, Juvi record 602 W&I (kid crime) cases are confidential... but they can still come back to haunt you and sometimes they can be brought up at sentencing for adult crimes and some other things ... because several agencies have records of the offense (school, police, sheriff, court, DOJ), people find out about it. Once the court seals it, no agency can release the info. As long as you arent on probation, you can have them sealed. Then you can say you were never convicted.. because no agency can divulge it. No, Juvi records are not automatically sealed. You need to petition for that. You need to have them sealed. Of course, if money is free flowing and you can get a lawyer to do it, thats best. Your first stop can be your juvi probation office. You can likely do all this on your own if you need to. They will have the forms and process for you at your juvi probation office. Your prob officer may even help you, especially if you werent any trouble or an ass.
