Ok, I did try to search for a little bit on this. But I wanted a more definitive answer. My mother is going to school(almost finished) to be a psychologist. I'm currently living with her right now(I own part of the property, the house is in her name though). If, for whatever reason, I was busted for growing or busted with a large amount of grass. Would she be charged or held responsible in any way? I'll leave it short, and answer any questions needed. Thanks!
It depends on how big of a dick the law wanted to be. In most places they could theoretically take all her shit even if you were the primary offender, but there are a lot of different variables depending on where you live, who you are, how the law works where you live, etc...
SuperMonkey is right, and you always have to count on the police raiding your house being dicks. With the DEA and the FEDS for the most part, you aren't going to see much leniency.
Nobodys can give you a definate answer. If your a grown man, and you do pay for half the house or w.e, then most likely the charges will be brought on you. But if your mother knows about it, allows it and ect, then shes an acompliance.
Thanks for your responses. I'd never risk her success in life for my love of the herbs. Not that this adds anything to this topic, but she is a smoker of 40+ years, recently quit 3 months ago.
It all depends on the cops and how hard they want to come down on you. If they decide to be mean, then yeah they could pretty much hit her with the book and you are both going down. If you tried to take the blame and they allowed it maybe not but again it will be case dependent. They will have the option to bring charges against her in most cases though. I generally advise people not to grow unless you are only risking your own lively hood but it is always up to you. To put it simply if there are other people living in the same house as the grow they can end up in trouble as well.
If it is grown or stored in your rented area, your part of the house, and was not noticeable then the law could work with you and keep your mother out of it. But you would have to make a carbon filter etc to try and show that she did not know. If the smell was apparent then it would be hard to convince them she didn't. Though it depends on the cops and where you are I guess. But if it was in your part of the house, the part you are "renting" and is not apparent, she would most likely be left alone.
