Who do you wish was here?

1. When you hear Wish You Were by Pink Floyd, is there anyone you tend to think of?
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
R.I.P. James Marshall Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Brad Knowell...

2. SYD BARRETT... many others, but mostly him

3. The omnipotent figure, God. If you believe in god, or if you can pretend to be the role of some who does. It makes sense, lol.:smoking:

4. How I wish, how I wish you were here.

One of the best stanzas of any song. ever.

5. yea im usually thinkin of that last oz. i blazed while im singing how i wish you were here

6. I didn't before, but after reading this thread I played it and had one person stuck in my mind.

The typical.........ex-girlfriend:(

7. I really don't have many people that I actually know that are gone that I miss. Sure, some of my elderly family members, etc... but I never really knew those people.

All the people that come to mind are musicians really. The biggest pain I've experienced in life is knowing that I'll never get to see almost any of my favourite bands play, let alone get to jam with any of my favourite musicians, because most of them are all dead, off living in seclusion, or gonna kick it pretty soon.

First one that comes to mind is actually David Gilmour... what I would fucking give to play the WYWH riff behind him playing the solo... just once...

8. Hey mann, you never know, you might be playin, live onstage, a cover of the song. Who knows, but that's pretty damn close to playin with Gilmour.;)

9. That's why I spend most of my practicing time playing either Hendrix, Gilmour, or Page stuff. It's the closest feeling I'm going to get to jamming with them someday. Hell, I've spent 6 months now trying to get just the first part of the Money solo absolutely perfect, gone through about 3 blisters on 3 fingers thanks to it, too...

10. Hunter S. Thompson, or my grandmother....

11. Pink Floyd is awesome

12. Did every one forget about Jerry?

13. How about all the unfortunate souls lost due to the Iraq War?

14. Hendrix, Morrison, SRV, Lennon, Freddie Mercury, Bill Hicks, Mitch Hedberg, man I don't even want to go on...

EDIT: And of course: Bob Marley
