White raspberries???

  1. Hey, what up fellow gardeners? So I have a bunch of raspberry bushes along side my garage. They get lots of sun, not sure if that is good or bad. The only problem is that a lot of the berries are getting white areas on them. It has been hot as hell, like most of the country. Anyone know what the problem is? Never posted in the regular gardening section, but hope you guys can help. Thanks:wave:

  2. uhhhh...... mold??

  3. If the white spots are hard it is sun burn, very common among all plants. Just eat them, the white part will be hard and flavorless but the rest are good. If your fruit are sunburned it means that you don't have enough foliage to protect the fruit, which could be a indicator that you need more nitrogen NEXT year. Don't add nitrogen this year.

  4. Def.not mold. Thanks DirtyViperMan. My guess was sun burn, cause they only get white spots on the sun facing side. And it only started after we started getting this crazy hot weather with lots of sun. Thanks for the nitrogen tip. Will def. do that next year.

  5. how about a pic?
i have yellow red and black raspberries (along with blackberries) .............never had that happen

  6. Sun burn is super common out here in Cali, everything get it from tomatoes to grapes, pears, Raspberry's, Cacti, Walnuts, Almonds. Its usually just a lack of foliage, or poor pruning that exposes to much old wood.
