Which would produce higher yeilds? BBS VS E&F

  1. Im slowly planning out my first grow, some questions require someone with experiance to answer.

-4x4x8 Tent, 1000w HPS, only plan on rolling with 9-12 plants

What would produce a higher yeild?

    - A Bubble Bucket System? Im thinking a 5 gallon pot for each plant would increse the yeild due to larger root growth.

    OR:
-An Ebb N Flow sytem running a 4x4 grow tray appox 7 inch deep, hydroton filled, plants in a 4x4x4 rockwool cube (possibly in a net cup as well or small bucket, so long as its not to tall for the tray)

Ive seen both systems work out great im also considering going scrog because ive seen some great results using that.

In your opinion what would you use ebb n flow or the bucket system. Keep in mind im growing only enough to produce enough for recreational use. Im hoping for about 3oz per plant at 12 plants puts me a little over 1g per watt.

  2. I use bubble buckets. but what your asking isnt easy to answer. there are waaay to many variables to decide if one system is better than the other. choose the system that you would best be able to handle and/or set up.

  3. Imo, i think buckets would prob work better too. Just having a simple flood tray for my plants is alot less work, and it leaves less room for errors.

  4. I bought a same size tent for my current grow and I can only comfortably fit a 4 bucket scrog in there. So I don't think your expectations are in line. Good luck and even though I'm doing my first grow using a scrog I highly recommend it.

How long did you veg for? What height. I realize that less is more sometimes. You have 16 sq feet I think you could at least have 6 in there. Also how did you yeild turn out, just curious, not bashing you lol. I'm reall just trying to maximize the use of the area and gear I have.

I like bubble buckets because you can move them around and take out in case you have to spray for mites. E&F the plants become somewhat static after they root out of medium

  6. sounds like ebb and flow might be easier based on the # of plants you want...one table filled with plants rather than 9-12 individual buckets

  7. Less is more in some cases. Plus I wanna keep number of plants down. I'm thinking 9 plants in my 4x4 started in 1.5 in cubes then into 4 inch then into 9 inch net pots. Spaced evenly in the tray. Hydroton of course.

  8. A bubble bucket system would definitely yield more. But you also have to factor in that DWC grows ridiculous and even if you flip clones into 12/12 with 1 day of veg you're probably going to run out of room. 4 buckets in a 4 x 4 tent fits great if you use about 3 weeks veg. I yielded 14oz off a 600w in a 4x4 in 3 buckets so its not hard.

  9. You've asked a really loaded question. If you restrict your Ebb and Flow to using a tray, then it also depends on how deep your tray is. In turn, it depends on how large your DWC container is.

*If* you use a tray that is 8" deep, and you have it full to the top with hydroton and your root zone is 6" deep with 2" being dry cover to prevent algae, and *If* you time your fill and drain cycles properly to maintain a 76F root zone temp at all times, and *If* you use proper nutrients, air flow and topping/LST, then I believe you'd harvest exactly the same amount in both systems *If* the DWC was maintained properly and all the variables were tweaked out right.

    See all the *If*'s ???

Your question is not easy to answer, but *If* both systems are tweaked out to their maximum capability, I think both would yield the same amount of cured weed.

Put me growing it in both and I can almost guarantee it.

I use a 19.25 square foot area with a tub style Ebb and Flow and two 430 watt HPS.

I yield 20 ounces from 4 plants, give or take a couple ounces each time. Last grow, I got 21. The time before that I got 20.

I don't use DWC for two reasons. One is that I don't like using that amount of water at a time in the grow chambers. Secondly, I believe the Ebb and Flow has better aeration to the root zone than DWC if cycled correctly.

It's really just up to you man. Your yield is going to be pretty much the same regardless of which of those two systems you use, *IF* you have either one tweaked out perfectly.

Good luck to you man! Whichever one you choose!
