Which Windows 7 To download? Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate?

Discussion in 'Silicon (v)Alley' started by ScriabinAnime, Jan 15, 2013.

  1. I am reinstalling my windows due to myself running out of alternatives to reduce the lag i get from playing League of Legends. despite my pro gaming computer and its Fios internet, nothing stops the lag.

I have absolutely NO idea between the differences of-

    Windows Home Premium
    Windows Ultimate
    Windows Professional

I have the opportunity to download one of them upon reinstalling my computer. What do they do? which should i download for optimal gaming?

    Thanks!!!

  2. explain what a pro gaming computer is and what your specs are....

your OS shouldnt create lag in a game, only a shitty computer will do that really...

also a simple view of the windows page will break down differences and if you really couldnt do that, google finds so much info.....

google.com, searched "differences in windows 7 versions"

first hit is microsofts own website....
Compare Windows 7 - Microsoft Windows

But like i said, its more than likely not your OS, its your computer.

  3. Home Premium is fine.

But yeah. The OS does use a good chunk of memory, but if you have "pro gaming" hardware your FPS should be fine.

    What are your specs?

  5. #1 - First I will give the disclaimer that, of course, you are only allowed to install the version you own a license for ;)

#2 - Download Ultimate. They are all exactly the same, except in the cheaper versions Microsoft disables some features. None will affect gaming in any way, but still...you might as well go with the best.

  6. My computer came with home premium. I wish it came with professional, so I could run mirrored hard-drives. That's the main feature I want. I've thought of upgrading to Windows 8 Professional, then you can back-license to Windows 7. Cheaper.

  7. You may just want to clean up your current OS.
Uninstall any crap you are not using.
Clean up your services and programs that load on start up.
Delete any temp files in your User Profile and in the Windows folder.
    Delete Windows prefetch contents.
Delete User Profile Content.ie5 contents and Cookies.
Run malwarebytes and a good Anti-virus program.
    :smoke:

  8. What kind of motherboard do you have?

You should be able to set up RAID 1 on your motherboard. Windows won't even know the difference because the motherboard will present it as a single volume.
