Which is stronger?

  1. 3.2 mm German zenit (same quality as root/ehle) straight tube vs a 5mm or 7mm china bong. Im buying the zenit no matter what, but im just wondering which you guys think would be stronger. I know glass is glass and it breaks but which do you guys think is stronger?

  2. It's all about the welds. The Zenit will be 3.2mm thick throughout the entire piece.

The welds on a chinese 5/7mm will most likely be much thinner than the rest of the piece, same with the bases on many chinese beaker/bubble bottom tubes.

You also have to take the finishing process into consideration as well. An annealed piece will be less likely to crack than one that isn't.

If it came down to having a 3"x3" square piece of 3.2mm Schott-Duran glass, and the same size square in 5/7mm chinese glass, I would bet the German made stuff will be less likely to crack upon an impact, but that's just an educated opinion.

    I agree completely lol.

  4. Anyone else wanna chime in?

  5. I would always chose 3.2 german schott or simax over a 5-7 chinese tube all day. Huge difference in quality.

  6. Trust me I know there is. So the zenit 3.2 would take more bangs or drops than a hoss 7mm? or 5mm?

  7. In theory it should. Theres alot that can come into play tho with a "bang" to a tube. But generally the 3.2 would take a good hit compared to the chinese tube.

  8. True, Anyone had a 3.2mm roor or ehle?

  9. I'd rather have a 5mm-7mm china glass bong there are differences between the 2 but for the most part borosillicte glass is very similar

  10. 3.2 german ftw

Go known over unknown. Its not the thickness of the glass that matters. What matters is how it was made. Chinese CRAP is pumped out so fast that there is no longer a pride for the piece and often important steps are compromised. The annealing process is merely just phased so the piece will survive packaging. No warranties on tubes so no worries about returns. The reason heady or scientific glass cost what it does is because the artist invested a greater portion of their time solely concentrating on stress in the piece so it will have a good long and memorable life. I tell all of my friends you will for sure be happier with a simpler, quality, piece over some fancy looking no name. Maybe when that no name becomes respectable and make a real name for themselves. AMERICA HAS THE BEST GLASS DONT LOOK ELSEWHERE BROTHER!!!

If you have netflix look up DEGENERATE ART. it is a fantastic film on the evolution of american pipe making. It'll might clear your uncertainties :)

  12. Degenerate Art was a great film. Slinger did a great job with it. I wonder if all the people that support Cheech glass would continue to do so after seeing that film.

  13. I have a 3.2mm roor and its sturdy as hell.

I've had it for a few months and my cousin had it for years before that. When he had it he used it constantly, the only thing I notice from use is part of the logo where I put my hand has started to fade.

One time I knocked over the bong, the downstem and bowl shattered everywhere but the tube was still perfect:bongin:

I can also vouch for hoss, as I haven't broken one hoss piece yet. Unfortunately my city doesnt have much at all for high end glass and the prices are ridiculous

  14. Yeah i watched it a couple weeks back it was awesome. I want to get into glassblowing myself so it was sick.
