Which is best?

  1. So as I have mentioned in previous posts, I live in Northern Nevada and it gets really hot here. It is desert reaching to be 100+ which will make it harder to keep my plants hydrated. I had the idea to dig a 2' deep and wide hole and lining it with heavy plastic with some holes in the bottom for draining and allowing me to keep my plants a lil closer together without them fighting for root space and filling it with "Siolless Soil" considering cannabis doesn't grow in this crappy dirt. I am planning on doing this thinking that the plastic will act as a big pot and help retain some water so it will stay alive between waterings. Is this a good idea and if not what would be better? Thanks.

And I am planting some bag seed after germinating in mid March once it starts staying warm enough. Will I get ok buds and what is the rule of thumb on how much bud each plant will produce?

  2. Any one? I really need help cause I got to start getting ready within the week!

  3. how much your plants yield depends on the conditions. If you provide adquate conditions you'll have a decent yield, potency and taste as well. You might be getting sun all day in the desert lol sun is good. Might be a bit dry, if you want your plants to survive I suggest digging your holes deeper rather than wider, the roots should find it comfortable deeper inground. Lining you hole with plastic? never heard of that I think in the desert it would be better to let your roots roam free in search of moisture, just my thinking. Mulching the top of your hole should help keep your rootball moist. Pay attention to your plants, check them as often as you can to see how they respond to the torrid heat. mulch my good man. I wish I could grow that far south.

  4. Sounds like your plan may fly as long as you can keep them watered. It's worth a try, maybe you'll be the guy with the next big breakthrough for desert growing! As far as how much you'll produce, there is no telling until you try, but for that long of a harvest, if all goes well, I'd guess maybe a 1/2 lb per plant if they end up getting really big (5 or 6 ft) and healthy.

  5. Ok, deeper instead f wider, go it. But what is mulch and what do I do with it/to it? And should I not do the plastic bag thing?? i just figured it would help retain moisture.. what do you suggest?

  6. mulch is something used to cover the tops of your holes, to retain moisture. It could be anything that doesn't allow moisture to pass through easily. Just make sure it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Don't use plastic or anything like that - grass clippings, more sticks on top of that, anything natural like surrounding vegatation. you want it natural looking because you don't want your holes to be noticable from the air, popo come down and snatch it like a eagle.

i just told you lol. i suggest you do more reading

  7. I have been reading for weeks. I just don't know now wheather I should grow in pots, dig a hole and fill it with soil, or do my plastic idea. And do you have any suggestions on what kind of soil I should get? Something from Walmart? thanks

  8. buying soil from the store would help. just make sure there are no time released fertilizers (chemical). the bought soil should be pH balanced and preferably organic.

  9. OK, so how often will I have to water my plants? WHen should I start fertilizing? And is there anything I should do to increase my yeild?

  10. all da questions... how often you water your plants depends, could be 2 days or 2 weeks. Here up north it doesn't get that hot, I could go 2 weeks between waterings, I didn't even mulch never have, just read about it and think I will try these moves next year.
Plants can take a good dose of fertilizer at about 3 weeks into growth, easy on the nutes though don't wanna make them sick. try no more than half strength dosage to start off. If you can find organic ammendments to go into the soil you wouldn't need to water with fertilizers, you would just need to water. Always look for organic ferts / ammendments.
Lots of sunlight is the main factor for lots o potent buds, and taking good care of your plants.

  11. Why go with organic? Better buds? and what are nutes and what kind do you suggest I get and when do I use em?

  12. yes organic equals better buds. plus you don't wanna be stuffing the earth full of chemicals. if you grow outdoors it should always be organic, leave the synthetics to hydro lords.
what kinds of nutrients you wanna use is up to you, there are so many ways to do it, but it's so simple. look it up somewhere.

  13. OK, thanks for all your help. It's helped me A TON!

  14. glad I could help as much as I could. I did my first o/d grow just this past year, and before that 3 indoor grows, so it was a smooth transition. If this really is your first time, like I said before, more reading would help.
If you could get a spot that gets sunshine all day (the more the better) and feed it right, you'll be permagrin come harvest. Any more Q's I like to help the fellow novice growers out.
