Which HPS lighting sytem should I buy?

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by nativetongues, Oct 20, 2011.

  1. I am planning my first grow and I wanted to know of these three HPS/MH lighting systems would work best for me. Space isn't really an issue and I plan on growing 2-4 plants.

  2. What 3 systems are you talking about?

Any way your options are 175, 250, 400, 600, 1000 watts, HPS or Mh. There are other wattage's but the ones I listed are the most common.

I think the 600 is the best because it has lots of lumens, can be used in tight spaces and can also work great in open rooms. 2 600's is much better than 1 1000. I also prefer HPS.

  3. As above ..600w hps is a very handy tool, does 4x4 very well but with heat ..don't spike the utility bill, and puts out the required lumens.

  5. Space is an issue..! I'd go option 5 for 2 plants, option 4 for 4 + plants, as you may "ENJOY" doing this, as well as the 400,000 members of Gr@sscity do! in time you may wanna grow more than the 2-4 plants you indicated, and plants 6-8 plants next grow...I'd go 600w hps for bud and T5 rack for veg

  6. What do you mean by T5 rack

  7. Something along the lines of this:

HTG Supply - GrowBright 4 Foot 4 Lamp High Output T5 With Choice of Bulbs

I recently switched from using CFLs to using T-8 fluorescent tubes (basically the little sister to T-5s) and will never go back to vegging with CFLs. Under each 4 foot light, I can easily fit 6-8 of my 5 gallon pots. With CFLs I was always having to adjust them to avoid burning and get max light to each plant. With the fluorescent tubes, it is much easier and they generate almost no heat.
